This is quite funny, probably because no videogame example could better highlight Arnold Schwarzenegger's blatant hypocrisy better than THQ's recent, awful, Conan game. The California Governor, as we all know, has tried to pass an unconstitutional videogame law in the past, and has been on the warpath against violent games for a while. How ironic that one such games is Conan, a game that draws from the same violent, sexist, bloodsoaked stories as the Conan movies in which Schwarzenegger himself has starred.
The "Governator," who has made money by starring in so-called "violent" videogames, has decided to wisely distance himself from THQ's game, which has no relation to the movies but shares the source material. Conan is currently on Leland Yee's hitlist as one of the "ultra-violent" videogames that he is warning parents about. Yee's (failed) videogame law would restrict the sale of THQ's Conan among other games, while Schwarzenegger's own Conan movie would be under no such regulations.
While a spokesman drew the dividing line between Arnold and the Conan game, he gave no comment as to what the governer's opinion on the title may be. Yeah, probably best Mr. Schwarzenegger shuts the hell up on that one, lest he look like even more of a self-interested hypocrite.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Of course, odds are that he's only changed his approach because it's politically beneficial for him. So whatever.
An interesting argument. However -- AHNOLD hasn't gone after movies the same way he's gone after videogames, has he? Had he ever renounced his former violence-glorifying ways, he wouldn't look like such a self-serving hypocrite. However, he hasn't, and he is just attacking things that he himself has made plenty of money from, just because, as you say, it suits him.
And, I think I might be correct, wasn't Rise of the Machines somewhat recent? Like, at least while he was doing the politics shit? I could be wrong, but that's the hypo-kick right there.
So yeah Conan is technically a literary character and not a creation of Hollywood.
See, books can be awesome and full of boobies and swords too- so, err, GO JOE!
I wasn't implying that at all.
You didn't say it directly in your post, so I'm just spreading the awsomeness that is information!
(Yes, I'm going to bring up this scene every time Conan gets mentioned, simply because it's one of the greatest moments ever committed to celluloid. Deal with it.)
Terminator 3, and its video game adaptation, came out the year Arnold was first elected, 2003. He was elected in the fall. Not sure when the T3 stuff came out, but probably a few months earlier.
Anyway, point taken. Still, it's not at all surprising that movies get ignored once again. Games will forever be children's playthings, to this older generation of politicians.
He's also one of the few politicians in recent memory to ever man up and admit some of his early decisions in office weren't the best choices.
Also if nothing else we can appreciate his embodiment of the American Dream, to quote a wise man "...pure Horatio Alger shit."
