Killzone 2 has been surrounded by controversy for years since a trailer for the game was used to sell the graphical power of the PlayStation 3 to the masses at E3 2006. While Sony was screaming “ZOMG IN-GAME FOOTAGE,” gamers everywhere were yelling “STFU PRE-RENDERED CUTSCENE!” Ever since then, we all have been waiting to see if the real Killzone 2 could live up to the hype.

Well, if the above trailer from last week’s SCEE PlayStation Day in London is any indication, Killzone 2 may actually deliver. Yeah, it’s not as impressive as the more recent (partially in-game footage?) trailer from E3 2007, but I think it comes pretty close. Check it out for yourself and let us know what you think.

Impressed by the graphics? Bored because it looks like every other generic FPS out there? Annoyed by all the "in-game footage" talk surrounding this game? How do you think it stacks up to the E3 2007 trailer? Hit the jump for a comparison.

Here's my stance,

The game looks pretty damn good, and I'm not just talking about graphics (though they DO look sexy). The game seems exceptionally immersive in the way that the first person perspective interacts with the environment.

The view is very cinematic, using all kinds of filters and motion blurs that add to the percieved realism.

The scope on the gun (and the transition to using the scope which games like Resistance are sorely lacking) also puts you square in the middle of the fight. It didn't unrealistically zoom on the badguys and provide for an easy shot, it just puts you behind an aiming reticule to aid your shot a bit.

Near as I can tell, it looks like a fun experience but until I can play it myself, I'll remain skeptical. At the very least, the developers sure know how to make a clean section of gameplay for a trailer =-)

I believe this is the most impressive in game graphics I have seen, no matter what other people says. It is logical that they boast their graphics, given the situation, and they do have a duck and cover system that keeps you in first person perspective, that's something new, no?

Not even on my radar anymore, being constantly pushed back I've lost pretty much all interest in it. Maybe it'll come back closer to its actual release, but I'm not anxiously awaiting this anymore. The trailer did look nice though.

Well, looks like I'm going to enjoy this at least. Am I one of the only people who liked the first Killzone? Wasn't the best FPS, but for Playstation 2 it was fantastic.

I really enjoyed the story until it started crashing in near the end, even that was half-decent though. It's not the best game ever, but it pushed some fantastic visuals for PS2 the way Halo 2 did for Xbox.

I just think this game won't be as good as anything 360 offers due to controls. Shooting a person with triggers is always easier and more satisfying in my opinion than using those blasted R-buttons. It just makes more sense also. That may sound like a cheap shot, but it's just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt.

@ all the people saying we can't complain about the colours:

what the hell man? it IS fucking grey...we went from 2 colours to 16 colours to 256 colours to 36000 colours and now we're probably in the billions of different shades and yet they choose 90% of their colors in the grey range... just like Gears of War...

I mean its not as if a post-apocalyptical-world would be as devoid of colours as is shown in most games... it just makes it all seem a bit bland...

Hah, that game looks sweet. A few of those scenes remind me of a few sections of Quake 4 but just on a grander scale. I don't care what the haters say, mowing people down with realistic guns in a futuristic military setting is fun for me.

It reminds me of all the hate that surrounded Timeshift. I don't care what anyone says about the game, killing people in slow motion is FUN. Sometimes not nitpicking a game to death also leads to FUN. Lets all try it and play this game before we pass judgement.

I'm pretty excited about this game. I don't own a PS3 but if MGS 4 doesn't force me to buy one then Killzone 2 will. I really hope that they do a good job with gameplay because that can easily make or break this title.

Explosions look like crap.

I like how everyone says it looks like crap. What looks like crap? The explosions just cater to the style Guerilla is going for with this title. Not every game shoots for complete realism, some for a certain art style. The lack of color even furthers that. I'll admit, the explosions may not be as up to par as the animations and the models, but that's a toughie.

And sweet lord, I'd think right now really the only thing that's actually building this game to compete with titles like Gears of War and Offset is the anti-aliasing thats been taken advantage of by the Playstation hardware. Incredible.

You all can feel however you want about the gameplay though. As I said, it won't feel as good as a shooter for 360, but it also takes a certain fan for this game. The last one, despite it's hype was an underdog. I don't care what anyone says, I know a lot of people who bought it, but few who enjoyed it. It's again, that thought-process about it being a worse shooter with Halo's hype looming over it.
