SCEA might want to spy on your emotions while you game photo

As spotted by Siliconera, Sony has filed a patent for software that aims to detect a range of human emotions with laughter being primarily emphasized. As you can see in the creepy sketch above, this data would be tracked through a microphone and camera hooked up to a PlayStation 3.

The application would know what you were feeling at any given moment by detecting specific body gestures as well as group interactions such as two people giving each other a high five. "Dude, did you see that sick headshot? Up top, broseph!"

Obviously, this technology could have a big impact on something as interactive and dynamic as videogames, but there's potential for SCEA to use it for movies, TV, and other multimedia. I wonder if it will be able to track anger, because more often than not that's my main emotion when gaming.

I need to start playing more relaxing games, I think.

Reminder: Hatsune Miku to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman tonight

This will never fully compute. I doubt that it'll make sense in my head while it's airing, even.  Vocaloid's Hatsune Miku, the voice synthesizer turned popular character, will be performing live on The Late Show with David Letterman at 11:35 p.m. Eastern Time. As a hologram. Right alongside Anderson Cooper and Gina Rodriguez.  Is this world really real?more
