Scamco strikes again: Ludicrous Vesperia DLC hits PSN photo

Oh Namco Bandai, is there any type of DLC that you won't be ashamed to sell us? Tales of Vesperia is rocking the PS3 in Japan, and that means it's time for Namco to do what Namco does best -- try to sell lazy digital crap that only a moron could justify spending money on. Want to spend thirty bucks on fake clothes for RPG characters? Scamco has made it possible!

That's right, folks! Namco Bandai has unleashed nine (APPARENTLY IT IS TWELVE, THANKS PARAPARAKING THE JOURNALIST!) downloadable character costumes on the Japanese PSN, costing ¥300 apiece. Add them all together, and you're expected to pay ¥2,700, or $29.75, for a handful of pretend clothes that probably cost all of two bucks to make.

You almost have to admire Namco's commitment to devaluing and whoring out every single game it publishes. Also, anybody who has bought this stuff is a dickhead.

Wow this almost makes paying for Darth Vadar/Yoda to be unlocked seem like a bargin.

Namco and EA should be banned from charging for DLC. These Dead Space "Packs" were equally ridiculous.

If anyone actually pays money for these, can we officially declare the recession over and done?

Yeah apparently this adds loli content.

I suspect this all to sell, and sell well. Hell, the first place I read this gave it an overwhelmingly positive response. Idiots they are.

They could have earned more money if they released it on PS3 first instead of creating a bajillion costume DLCs.

This is why co-op scenario mode for Tekken 6 will cost money.

I have a hard time understanding why everyone is so against purchasing DLC. If a company wants to offer a little something extra like an idiotic costume for one of their generic RPG characters knowing that somewhere someone is obsessed with said generic RPG character and that seeing the character in a different color t-shirt will somehow enrich their lives I'm all for it. I think too many of us lose sight of the fact that the gaming industry exists to make money just like any other industry.

JOURNALISM FUCK YEAH! Have you even taken a look at the Japanese store for this or just copied from Kotaku?

There are actually more than nine costumes available. (Hint: 12)

I expected this to be SOOO much worse considering all the Sterling Drama and anticipation I got from the headline to the revelation that it's just clothes.

Wake me up when they're selling keys in order to boot up the game. Or a update to a game breaking glitch cost $1.

Why the hate for DLC? Don't people spend absurd amounts of money on cheap, frivolous things in real life too? Sure, getting armor for you horse in Oblivion is not something you can really show off to friends or family easily, or anyone at all I guess, nor does it have any in game benefit. But does it look cool? Sure, if that's your taste. It's also your money. People waste money on so many stupid/pointless things in the real world, and things that often don't even last through the night.

It's cheap marketing yeah, but welcome to life. We've been overcharged for everything since we were born. If you like it, buy. I bought a Tycho Brahe shirt for my XBL Avatar. I think it looks cool.

@Franklin N Derr:
In theory DLC isn't a bad thing but paying for DLC is bad, because if this catches on (or already catched on) more and more content, that would normally be free, will be locked away for people to buy later. In the end everybody might end up with less than complete packages only because some people are buying DLC.

I'm with Zeag. EA is especially bad with the DLC for their sports games. Burnout too now that I think about it.

If you have the money to spend on this, buy Critter Crunch, Shatter and all of the Warhawk DLC instead. I want more ranked jetpack matches goddammit!! :D

So they take the beta version of ToV, add content, port the exclusive to a new system, then add $30 of costumes as DLC? How did I not see this coming?

No doubt the 360 version won't get any of this stuff. I love ToV but at this point I don't even care.

I bought Critter Crunch for what 7 bucks? Even Trine at 20 bucks is worth more than fake clothes.

Well, when it comes to localizing a game versus overpriced DLC for the otaku of Japan, it looks like Namco knows which is more important.

Eh? Burnout Paradise had so much free DLC - how can that be an example of how not to do it?

Also, did we all already forget Capcom selling us alternate costumes for SF4 that were already on the disc? Still, no one does it like Namco.

Yeah they did play it right to begin with. I never got the game until after the bikes were already added but it doesn't change the fact that their pricing is still way too high. I mean if you wanted to buy all the DLC to get the full experience of what the game has to offer, you'll be spending at least an extra $70 on top of the original game. That is way too much for additional content. Of course, I am a hypocrite and did buy Big Surf Island even though it was overpriced :P

Now that I think about it, where are my planes Criterion????
