Things have been quiet on Brash Entertainment's front regarding the previously-announced videogame adaptation of the horror film, Saw. Perhaps it's because they're actually trying to make a good game instead of selling titles based on brand recognition -- Alvin and the Chipmunks and Jumper, anyone?
In an interview with horror Web site Bloody-Disgusting, the film's producer Oren Koules spills his (bad pun alert) guts on the games, which he says "the game company are not letting [them] talk too much about." According to Koules, the game takes place in the time frame of the first film, is being written by original screenwriters Leigh Whannell and James Wan, and will feature the voices of all of the original actors.
Bloody-Disgusting writes: "[Producer Mark] Berg also explained to us that the game will be a walk-through where you pick up weapons along the way." Just what in the hell that really means, I have no idea; but "walking" and "weapons" are confirmed, which is a good first step for a videogame, I suppose.
The original Saw was released in 2004, and sequels have been pushed out like puppies every year since. Saw V hits theaters this October, and stars Julie Benz and Tobin Bell. The Brash Entertainment videogame is set for an October 2009 release, surely to coincide with the release of Saw VI.

FUCK. NO.
I never -saw- it coming.
I'm sorry. I'll leave now.
The potential for bad hype shouldn't ever enter into whether or not an idea should go forward. If the idea is bad, then don't do it. If it isn't guaranteed to be profitable, that's valid too. Lame and sad, but valid. But the idea of bad press? Caving to that would be pathetic.
All that said, I just hope that they can put forward the atmosphere decently.
Dungeon keeper. That is exactly what I thought.
Brash co-founder and Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull is a alumni of my college. He came to speak recently about how he "changed the economic of the movie industry!" and how he "created the movies he always wanted to make!" and on and on.
He effectivly came from nothing and built himself a movie studio that actuallly puts out good stuff, so good on him for that.
While he was there mainly to talk about his various ecomonic changes to the movie making and game creating structutre(and give the audience an exclusive sneak peak at The Dark Night!) he mentioned a few things about Brash. On the one hand he said all the right things about game development, pointing out that games shoudn't be forced to release early, opting to give the creators plenty of time to flesh out content.
(That was paticulerly Ironic, as the games based on the movie properties he'd produced(Batman Begins and 300) had been garbage games forced to release early!)
He talked about how his favorite game was Gears of War. Great....Sure.
His overarching message was that he wanted the creative team to be able to work uninteruppted by the suits with their moneyhats, which I HOPE is a policy they keep. Reguardless of what game they make, the creators shoudn't be pressured by the producers to put in or take out content.
It was a pretty interesting lecture( and the Dark Night, evem if you're not a Batman freak, is going to be AMAZING. It's so good that I can't say more, becuase I signed an NDA!!)
