Save yourself some time: avoid this Risen glitch photo

One of many indicators of a solid port is if the studio took the time to squash bugs from the original version of the game. In the case of Risen it appears as if Piranha Bytes missed at least one -- and it's a big nasty, terrible one.

In the third chapter in the game, your no-longer-shoeless adventurer will have to face the dangers of the Volcano Keep in order to do the whole "save the world" thing. In the process, though, you may hit a glitch so bad that you'll have to restart the game. Take our advice: when prompted by the voodoo man, it's best to go right instead of left first. Going left first means two quest items (busts) won't spawn and thus you can't complete the next two chapters.

It's a bummer, and a known bummer to boot. You'll see threads from 2009 full of folks who have stumbled upon this evil. Add me to that list which is sure to grow given Risen's new platform.

Here's another piece of advice: save often and save in 15 different slots. You never known when Risen is going to break. And break it often does.

This is hardly surprising given it's a PC game from a developer with a long history of buggy games...

Or you could just save yourself some time by not playing risen in the first place :)

Risen is great. I only ran into 1 bug and it's this one - easy noclip fix.

Bring on Risen 2 :)

I still want it, but it sounds like a serious headache of a game.

That sounds bad. I'm still in chapter one, but it's a pretty good game. If you're looking to scratch that Wrpg rich, pick it up.

I'm pretty sure this only afflicts the terrible 360 port. You should be playing this game on PC.

No no no! After the woefully broken mess they released upon us as Gothic 3 I swore I'd never touch their garbage again. YOU BROKE MY HEART, PIRANHA BYTES!

Does this happen 100 % of the time or is it reliant on certain unknown factors to trigger it? It seems to me that taking the left path and having the rest of the game ruined is an impossibly hard bug to miss by anyone's standards.

What are the Q&A Testers doing if they miss a bug that glaringly obvious?

played it on pc, enjoyed it, no real issues or problems aside from a graphics fog glitch that was patched within a week of the game release. This is classic gothic, well recommended for anyone that liked the previous games. Quest things don't spawn? I explored the hell out of that area, going left, right, up and down before moving on to the next, so no, never saw anything like it.

Did Destructoid review this game? I went searching for a review for it, but couldn't find one.

@Usedtabe I believe the review is still forthcoming for the xbox port, and this glitch is probably a good part of the reason why.

Surely a better piece of advice would be "don't play this crappy game".

A game where you fuck up eventually? It's like Demon's Souls. Only this time, it's unintentional.

Huh. I've been playing Risen for a while and i have come across no bugs whatsoever. Is this just the 360 version, or pc as well? Anyway, it's still a great, and underrated, game.
