It would appear that medieval-tinged fantasy worlds are more progressive than we are, as gay marriage is perfectly acceptable in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The news comes by way of Bethesda marketing man Pete Hines, who confirms that either gender can be married, regardless of your own.
"Not hush hush, just not making a huge deal out of it. You can marry anyone," he said. "... Should clarify. Not any NPC, just mean any male or female. Doesn’t matter what you’re playing."
As if I needed any further reason to be excited for this game, the fact I could marry a gay bipedal lizard has totally sealed the deal. Great stuff!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I never played it and forgive me if I get this wrong, but I think the problem was that DA2 everyone was 'bisexual' and people thought that was a bit cheap. I might be wrong though.
This is cool, though.
But! I want to marry Dragons!
/sarcasm
Glad, you can do this though. There will certainly be no complaints from me. The question is can my gay Argonian marry a feisty Khajiit?
Why would I want to marry a creepy 40 year old Virgin in an MMO, when I can marry a AI lizard man? Nothing beats slaying some dragons and pretending to be all Viking like, and then returning to your small little house where your sexy lizard man slave is waiting for you, then preceding to engage in some hot steamy sex between a Nord man and a lizard man.
Where is Fox News?! WHO WAS PHONE?!!
Lol. That is all.
But seriously, it's awesome that we have the choice. Not that I really care too much for marriage in games, but if we get some sort of bonus or something, that'd be cool.
Take god of war for example: They mention some topless women, but they never even mention that Kratos barely has any outfit to speak of for the entirety of the game. Seriously, as a gay guy, I do see how this is sexually titillating!
As for gay marriage, as far as I'm concerned, those game's religion has nothing to do with the catholic church. There's no reason it should follow it's rules then.
There you go jimmy, saved you the time and effort of commenting.
Anyway, this is pretty cool. If a game offers you more options and choices, I'm all for it. I'm also all for gay marriage rights, so it's win-win really.
I prefer to ignore poorly implemented features, so I hope NPCs aren't constantly making advances towards me.
But persona games writers are genius, it's a separate group.
And lol@people complaining about it. I think Bethesda may have included this and whatever other "simulation" elements on account of the whole, I don't know, playing a role thing? Just a thought.
If you're implying you want actual sex scenes that's kinda weird, and not everyone actually wants to see their lizard man get freaky with a cat man, so black screen is probably the way too go, this isn't a porno after all.
However no doubt mods will be out fairly shortly to allow full nudity and sex, like with fallout and oblivion, so if that's your fetish no need to fear.
It'd also be nice if the relationship aspect of games was more dynamic, less dependent on asking a series of questions and perhaps based on in game actions while playing. For example: if you happen to save some npc in a random encounter that begins their mild attraction to you, maybe they offer help or side quests. You heal them in combat or save them from something, they like you more etc. Right now games treat relationships as math equations.
Bravo!
I sure hope Fox sees that line, it could have hilarious results :-)
I get where you're coming from :p I agree with the way you said about building up relations, way better than just repeating the same actions like in Fable or The Sims.
Santorum appears to yank a brown piece of paper, which might very well be a napkin, from a nearby dispenser.
"I can call this Argonian a Dark Elf," he said. "But it is an Argonian. And why? Because it is what it is. Right? You can call it whatever you want, but it doesn't change the character of what it is."
