i mean i can easily see more clothing, vehicles, weapons etc. it COULD be cool, depending on the stuff they add. especially with the focus on coop.
but sadly once again a 60$ game missing content from the start, to later add DLC to make it 100$ game. 40 weeks, 40 items, 1$ each. i could see that.
Fallout 3 and Borderlands are the most recent examples of games of this type. Still waiting on Mass Effect 2 though.
Even Bethesda don't have 40 releases worth.
Damn, this sit he first news that has stopped me from pre-ordering and will now wait for reviews to see how complete it is. If it is completem then I can pick and choose DLC. If it's not, then I'll grab it used and cheap and never touch a penny of DLC.
Balls in your court THQ. Please don't fuck with the WWE games in the same way.
This doesn't say anything about the amount of DLC. It's only the timeframe they're releasing it in. At first glance it reads as if it's intended to be a weekly thing, yet it hasn't been specified.
Oh, and whoever tries to say Bethesda does the same thing, they'll generally release 5 packs of DLC for a game that already has 60+ hours of content. THEY DON'T RELEASE NEW DLC ALMOST EVERY WEEK OF THE YEAR.
please no. that game was horrendous, underdeveloped, felt like downloadable title and had ridiculously overpriced DLC. it was great idea, but THQ wanted to sell dumbed down product that didn't even felt like budget-priced game.
And to think an entire industry jumped on the bandwagon...And that sir is why "I" won't pay retail for a game, except for Skyrim, since the content is so massive, the dollar per hour value stands tall.
I have enough games that I can pass a few months with , till these drop to $29.99 or a GOTY with all content.
As for planning ahead, how is that bad? There are companies (like Bethesda, as has been mentioned) that plan well ahead of the game's launch for DLC. You think the Fallout 3 and Fallout NV expansions were planned, designed, built-out and tested all AFTER the release of the original game? Fuck no, they were being worked on before the original retail release.
"...the fuck? Hey, check this shit out. These assholes are trying to out do us! US! Who do they think they are?"
"Bob-san, it's time to initiate Operation Rainfall."
"Huh? So...are we like...publishing those already localized games NOA won't publish? I don't see how-"
"No, you fool! Rainfall refers to the rate as which we release DLC. Constantly. We'll release so much DLC are customers will be soaking wet with options."
"I'm not really feeling that metaphor, but I get where you're going..."
"Good. We will release a piece of DLC every DAY until we release the next version of our game we released the dlc for."
"I like it! So, what are we talking here? Characters? Modes?"
"God damn it! How long have you been working here? You're thinking too small. Think costumes. And color palettes. An endless supply of them."
"But sir, the people will revolt! This is madness!"
"Madness? THIS IS CAPCOM!!!"
*kicks Bob-san off chair*
"Now bring out our secret weapons."
*two figures slowly appear out of the darkness*
"It's good to see you again...Ono-san. I assume your assignment is going as planned?"
"Yes sir. Street Fighter Xtreme Beach Volleyball is on schedule."
"Good, good. And what about you?"
*the room rumbles as noises erupt from the mysterious figure*
"Inafune-san Autotron 3000 re-por-ting for du-ty. Free-to-Play Mega Man Le-gends 3 is armed an operational."
"Mu hu hahahahahaha-"
"STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL!"
"No...it can't be! I-It's...it's..."
"That's right. It's Kotick Man to the rescue!"
DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
these are going to be outfits and weapons and missions, not HOURS of game play... ill stake my life on that... i have a bad feeling 80% are going to be irrelevant to making the game longer, the 20% will be add on missions... there not going to give you a new "island" or area, it just going to jam pack more into a single area....
Greed... greed... greed...
'Since when does DLC mean a game is going to be incomplete at launch?'
It doesn't, pal. It just means that the possibility is there. You just jumped to conclusions and proceeded to get all angry because, well, you're on the internet. Now sit down, shut up and hang with us 'ungrateful, entitled little sh**s'. Mm-kay? Mm-kay.
However if any of this DLC is simply disc unlocks then I will flame up with rage. Be warned, THQ, Saints Row 3 is your most preordered game ever, don't piss off those people before the game is even released.
I think a lot of people are overreacting. I guess it's because of the wording. This just means we'll have about a year's worth of DLC not 40 DLC packs. Think about Borderlands, Fallout, Call of Duty or any other game. A lot of games get DLC for about a year. Everything we've seen so far leads one to believe they're throwing everything they possibly can into this game. SR2 only had a couple packs after release. I just think this means they want to do more.
Your point being...? "But everyone else is doing it!" simply isn't an excuse.
The "on the disk but released over a period of 2 months as DLC" costumes for Street Fighter 4 would like a word with you.
While often times DLC and the main game have separate budgets, it is actually fairly common for specific things to be left out so that it can be expanded on further via DLC (as in, they wanted to do something but they figured they could do a better quality job by spending more time on it as a separate project A-LA DLC.) or add-on content that is cut specifically to be DLC such as Costumes, Weapons, or even game modes (Resident evil 5)
This isn't even the first game to plan months of DLC releases. Marvel vs Capcom 3 was going to do a bunch of DLC character releases. The only reason UMvC3 is seeing release is because Capcom's DLC plans were derailed by the Japan earthquake. (And in the end, people will save money because UMvC3 will cost less than the combined DLC price would have been.)
Capcom is also selling alternate color palettes for SF3:TSOE, which is a complete joke. $3 for predesigned color schemes in a port of a decade old fighter, when the norm before was to include a free color editor. Heck, people you play online won't even see your $3 purchase unless they make the same purchase themselves, because Capcom isn't even bothering with a compatibility pack.
Koei, the masters of excluding content to justify their expansion discs, is selling co-op story for Dynasty 7 in its XL expansion?
The president of Vicious Cycle posted that they wanted to release the alien mothership battle as DLC for Insect Armageddon? The battle that the game was leading up to, but didn't actually happen.
http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/topic/557737-saints-row-the-third-will-come-packed-with-a-lot-of-dlc/
they're planning to sell CHEATS as DLC.
with this much DLC they may as well give SR3 away at no cost, but seriously? CHEATS AS DLC?! When they were already included in SR2 and SR1? They also want to sell the VTOL as DLC, and so much Clothing as DLC. And even a bunch of Co-Op features as DLC. Even gameplay changing things as DLC...
Seriously? this is ludicrous and entirely believable at the same time. Still, it's not as bad as Modern Warfare 3's "15 dollars for 3 maps" policy
