Saints Row on Wii would be 'too controversial'

Saints Row on Wii would be 'too controversial' photo
     THQ

Saint's Row developer Volition has stated that one of the reasons we will likely never see a Saint's Row game on the Wii is because the addition of motion controls would make it far too controversial.

"With games like ours you get much more controversy when you add motion controls like you saw with Manhunt 2," stated producer Dan Sutton. "We have weapons like chainsaws, satchel charges, stuff like that. I can definitely see people having a problem and outcry towards that because it does actually feel like you're using weapons that way."

Anti-games lobbyists will use anything they can to pretend that videogame violence is worse than any other medium. The motion controls of the Wii have certainly been brought up in the past to lend a false sense of credence to the "interactive violence is evil" argument. Manhunt 2 was, of course, refused a rating in the United Kingdom, before the banning was overturned in courts.

Sutton also claimed that the Wii's graphical prowess, or lack thereof, was a barrier to getting the THQ-published game into the hands of Nintendo fans. "At Volition we're really about pushing really good graphics and with the Wii you just feel like you're playing on an older console," he claimed. So, while Reggie Fils-Aime would like to get his hamburger hands on GTA IV, it looks like Saint's Row is far beyond his savory grip.

More irrational developer Wii fear.

No heart, I tells ya.

So hey, I guess it's better to puss out, eh?

And y'know, when I think THQ, I don't think great games. I dunno, maybe I'm woefully ignorant of their product catalog. Or maybe this has something to do with it.

Wow, thank god Manhunt 2 came out and saved the world from mediocre spin-off ports on the Wii.
Seriously, Sega and Platinum Games' MadWorld are laughing all the way to the bank for taking the Wii seriously. When that game oodles profit every developer still whining about Wii-ports will get their ass in gear and actually develop a product for Nintendo.

Seeing as Nintendo is publicly courting Rockstar this seems more like Saint's Row trying to force some sort of "too cool for school" public image.

Hey guys, is that actually a screenshot of Saint's Row? If so...I'd like to hit whatever that THQ-bot is smokin'.

That looks like an original XBox game to me. Not bad, but not so impressive that it couldn't be done justice if it were ported to the Wii.

I like they way they allways feel the need to bring up Rockstar in some way.

Maybe if most 3rd party developers weren't lazy fucks who say shit like "we're about pushing graphics", and "the Wii feels like an older console",maybe we'd see more nicer looking games on Wii.Games like MadWorld and The Conduit prove that Wii games can look pretty awesome if the hardware is utilized right.

Did I miss the edict where Jim must use some variation on "hamburger" or "beefburger" in every piece regarding Reggie?

I picture the two of them on a deserted island together, glancing at each other and hungrily seeing hamburgers and hotdogs instead of human beings.

Then again, I eat a lot of paint.

Yeah nobody wants to play a game that looks like it was done on an older system. There's simply no demand for games that don't push the limits of modern day graphics, no one will buy them.
On a totally unrelated note, when is Persona 4 coming out?

I think this game looks like some mindless fun. I'm looking forward to creating a half n' half tranny wearing a hot dog suit driving around in a truck filled with raw sewage and shooting it at businesses to decrease their value. And if anyone gets in my way I will use my defibrillator paddles to take them out. I can't wait for this game to come out! (I'm a sucker for a decent sandbox game in case you couldn't tell).
