Saints Row 2 is $7.50 on Steam for today only photo

Want Saints Row 2 on PC? Don't have much money?

Good news. If you buy it today, you can get it for $7.50, which is a pretty impressive $22.49 off of the regular price. If you're interested in the deal, head on over to Steam and pick it up. I didn't really pay much attention to this game when it came up, but for $7.50 I just might pick it up when I get home today. It's for today only though, so if you want it you gotta buy it now.

Anyone planning on picking this up? Is it worth it?

"Is it worth it?"

On the console version, I got 200+ hours of pure glistening pleasure. PC has mods. Get it.

@MrSadistic No. They never did. I love this game but I would never wish the PC version upon anybody.

I can tell you that it's more FUN than GTA. It's definitely worth it. The story is a ok, but the entire world and it's side-missions and different activities to dick around with are awesome.

Give me a game that allows you to ride on a Quad (on fire), set other people on fire, and make anything explode by touch, and Ill show you success.

If you haven't played the PC version, only the 360 version, do not give advice. You might influence people into buying this game when they normally would not. My bro has an i7 920 and GTX 285, and a 7200 RPM HDD. He can't max it out. Even on lowest settings it lags. It literally runs worse than any game I've ever seen. It cannot render frames while reading data from the hard drive. The only way this game will run good for you is if you have at least a GTX 285 (if you want to max out graphics, but even then it's around 30 fps) and a fast SSD (or if you want to try a ramdisk or something). That said, he had a ton of fun with it, and even his friend who was playing on a 9600m GT had fun, although my bro always had to drive because his friend lagged too much while driving. If you have a 360, just spend the extra money and get it on the 360. If you don't have a 360, then I hope you don't mind constant lag and jitters and have extreme faith in your rig.

yeah I have a 280 GTX and the stupid cut scenes kept shuttering. The gameplay itself felt like I was playing The Witcher on medium/max settings on my old 6800 GT.

I'm running a GTX 285 in my PC with an older Core 2 Duo and 7200 RPM hard drive. It is a pretty lousy port, but it's playable with the proper hardware. I run it maxed out and the lag can be a bit overbearing. I was running it on XP 32-bit at the time, and now I have Windows 7 64-bit. I'm curious as to how it'll run now.

Fun fact: Target's clearance price on this game is about the same or possibly less by now. I picked it up about 2 weeks ago for $7.48. You still need to use Steam to run it, however.

DO NOT BUY SAINTS ROW 2 FOR THE PC. It is a heaping pile of ass and nothing can change that. I got it for $5 not too long ago, and I still don't feel like that was worth it.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD: DO NOT BUY THIS!!! The developer outsourced the pc port and whoever did it completely fucked it up. My friend and I have very respectable gaming pc's, we can run Resident Evil 5 (a much prettier game) with the graphics maxed out with zero lag and no issues.

For this godawful piece of shit, we had to use the lowest settings (like sub N64 graphics), and even then the game lagged so badly that we eventually just gave up on it altogether. Don't support his utterly broken garbage!

@copilotlindy: That's disappointing news. Looks like I won't be getting it now, then.

There was a $5 special on Direct2Drive a week back. I felt ripped off. My rig, which runs Red Faction completely fine (same engine as SR2) chugs at an unreasonable rate even with graphics turned down. Stick with the PS3/360 versions.

While the port is rather terrible, if you have higher system specs than it needs you can tend to be fine, one plus is it supports a 360 controller right off the bat for much better controlling, plus its £3.50 for us brit fags, which is nice regardless

Get it for 360 instead. PC is severely flawed, no more updates wil lbe released and there's no DLC.

Maybe if you have to play it on PC, you can try not downloading it instead.

@ copilotlindy

It runs fine on my roomate's PC:

Core2Quad Q6600, 4GB Ram, Nvidia GTX260

the Frame rate only drops when you are racing down the street, and the CPU is rendering the on-comming models/textures, but that is an issue present in all sand-box games.

Comparing it to a resident evil game is a bad comparison, because the size of the levels involved, and the models being rendered at any given time will be nowhere near what saints row requires.

Really great game, beats the SH*! out of GTA thats for sure :D

I have 2 GTX280's in SLI, with a Core2 duo running at 3.6ghz and a 10,000 rpm sataII drive and the game runs like ass. Oh and 4 gigs of ddr3 ram.

This game is amazingly fun, but do yourself a favor and get it on Xbox360.

@stanfy86 - Nope, I played Mercenaries 2 with graphics maxed and had no lag there either really. A sandbox game that had zero issues.

My issue is with the co-op, which is completely broken. The lag when playing single player is passable at best (still not really acceptable), but co-op is so bad it's unplayable. Has nothing to do with my internet, as like I said, Mercenaries and RE:5 co-op plays fine. Saint's Row 2 just has horrible net code. Top of the line pc or no, playing online with a friend is a fucking nightmare.

If you just want a single player sandbox game for cheap, maybe this would be acceptable, but I still can't recommend a buy because think of all the suckers who paid full price for this assuming they were getting a functioning co-op game. Luckily I bought this clearance at Target, but people who purchased this day one and paid $50 got screwed over.

Yeah, I got it on the D2D sale too. Would've waited for this sale if I had known it was coming, I think. I just like Steam's integration over the weird download manager program from 1998 D2D uses.

Just a heads up to anyone running Windows 7, heard there were a lot of problems with it. Also heard that those problems won't be fixed.

SR2 is a poor man's version of GTA4...but I do like some of the funny side missions (Septic Avenger), and the way you can customize your character.

As many say stick with the console version, PC performance is spotty at best. While I can play the game (got it on the $5 deal) on foot it starts to lag REALLY hard minute I step into a vehicle.

Sign of an unoptimized game when tweaking everything low does minimal difference in performance. Controls don't seem as tight on a gamepad, especially with performance issues it really cuts into aiming.
