Sadness screenshot revealed: Photograph of Bigfoot to follow photo

When I saw the last trailer for Duke Nukem Forever, I was almost worried that, should 3D Realms be serious this time, we'd lose one of the greatest examples of vaporware ever not-created. Luckily, we still have Sadness, that not-game being not-developed for not-the Wii.

The above header image shows that "developer" Nibris is ticking all the vaporware boxes. A key factor of any game of this nature is to release low-quality screenshots that reveal absolutely nothing yet spark a tiny little light in one's mind that makes you think maybe, just maybe the game is real. Behold this vague image and all its nondescript glory!

The screenshot was released on IGN's forums, but was swiftly taken down. However, because the people of the Internet are grasping magpies, there was no way this picture was escaping without capture.

Just bear in mind though, that this is the first possibly real screenshot ever, no gameplay details have really been revealed, and Nintendo itself doesn't even acknowledge that this is a Wii game.  Yeah ... I can see this one hitting shelves before Christmas, am I right?

Duke Nuke'm WILL HAPPEN, 3D Realms are just that random sort. Just as Sadness is not-developed by Nibblet, yes, the actual cob of corn, or the unofficial mascot of Korn. Whichever u prefer.

Lol, Bigfoot. Nah, he lives next-door. Kinda rough around the edges, but he can grunt his way through most social situations. Now, Sadness, this is something for The Discovery Channel's Ghost Hunters to look into. I seriously don't believe it.

And you can hardly see anything! Is this what they meant by claustrophobic?!

It's a shame, the game sounded pretty cool.

Why the hell do they keep pretending it exists?

I wonder if this is a scam to get investors to sink money into their company, only to run of with big sacks of cash (just like the Phantom console).

I wish it were real, because it actually seems like an interesting concept and assuming the screen is representative of how the game will look while hypothetically running on the Wii then I would have to say that it's one of the few games that actually tries to push the wii hardware.

Nibris has always said that Sadness is still in development. The last official statement Nibris released said that the game has been pushed back from 2008 to 2009 from a 2007 interview with Cubed3 website.

The developer's website is being updated... which seems to be the only promise that Nibris has made and not broken.

Fuck, how many years have people been talking about this hoax? I wish I could fool so many idiots. Though I wouldn't waste that power with a fake game, I'd start a religion and take their money instead.

This game exists if we believe it exists.

Looks like Project Zero style from that screenshot.

I just don't know what to think. On the one hand, the concept was quite interesting. On the other, lofty concepts are very difficult to execute. On another hand again, the game might not exist. On still more hands, another nibris game, ROTR, actually has a gameplay trailer that looks pretty promising, so if the company is scamming everyone, they're doing a pretty thorough job. This adamant belief that the game doesn't exist is quite narrow minded, however.

I thought I had seen that image before and then the Cowzilla link confirmed it. Glad to know I wasn't going crazy.

The sad thing is, before the Wii launched, I actually bought into this vaporware.
