LittleBigPlanet really has had it bad since it launched. The highly promising PS3 title was delayed a week due to Muslim-themed controversy, the launch was riddled with glitches and server issues, the sales have been less than fantastic and, to top it all off, people are now having their data mysteriously delete itself. Nice.
According to reports, random parts of save data is at risk of simply disappearing, be it MGS4 level pack progress to whole swathes of user-created content. "I lost four costumes and she lost all 12 of her saved costumes, as well as losing the level status. Also we found that all of our community and saved photos were erased too," claims one unfortunate LBP fan.
It is being theorized that bloated profile data may be causing the bug to occur. Especially since this follows the MGS4 level pack release, which adds a lot of content, some believe the game is automatically deleting things when a profile gets too large. Nothing official has been said in response to these reports, so be careful out there.
At this rate, I just feel really sorry for LittleBigPlanet. To go from one of the most hotly anticipated titles of the generation to little more than a series of tragedies just isn't right.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
It is better to be safe than sorry, but you should mention that so far, the problem is far from widespread.
Are we overreacting a little, maybe?

Yeah, it seems to happen to only really happen to people who play a ton. Still stupid, but not a huge deal
From what I understand, people are losing things they've collected prior to the MGS4 pack, so it's not just a simple case of not being able to collect anything new and have it stick.
argue argue argue.
You obviously havent played LBP, It's had around 5-6 patches already, some of them are for some rather minor issues, such as making searching levels a bit better, and improving support for USB Keyboards (which is bugged, you can't see what you're typing unless you press tab to go into the PS3 default interface). Trying to argue LBP will never be patched is a futile effort, it's already had numerous.
Nothing like some avatar-less noob to moan and bitch about something Destructoid has written.
And of course, if it didn't happen to you, it CAN'T be an issue, right?
You people.
hope I won't suffer from it :-)
Oh, Jim.
I never once had any issues with Castle Crashers eating my data. So, you know, fuck everyone who said that was an issue, right?
Nobody said it's not an issue. But the distance between that and "a series of tragedies" is a little too exaggerated.
Well, what do I know anyway, I don't even have an avatar.

You wrote your opinion in the article and we 're commenting it. Maybe you're right and it actually is "tragic", but maybe you 're not. In any case, we're discussing.
And of course, if it didn't happen to you, it CAN'T be an issue, right?"
xD
You rock Mr. Sterling.
Considering so many people without avatars are just here to troll, you can't blame me for assuming you're all that way. People who want to remain members or the community and anticipate getting banned tend to use *something* to identify themselves. You all look the same to me.
That sounded like racism.
Anyway, maybe it was "over-reacting" to you, but I do find LBP tragic. I'm not even criticizing the game. It's one of the biggest reasons I got a PS3 and I think some of the stuff it offers is really good. But that's why I think it's quite tragic. No excellent, ambitious game should get caught up in the kind of bullshit that has surrounded LBP.
I'm firmly on the game's side. I wish for better for it, that's all. I don't see what's wrong there.
I would be pissed if I lost any of my user generated stuff. Bring us SONY'S HEADS ON A PLATTER!
I got a PS3
:o you have a PS3 .... your kidding right ?
Eyes can make reading happen!
As far as the use of the word "tragedy," it's a bit over-dramatic, for sure. But the point here is that, unfortunately, there have been a few public "issues" with the game, the first of which was its much publicized launch delay.
In all truth, it hasn't been smooth sailing for Media Molecule, but that doesn't mean that the game isn't fantastic. Calm down everyone.
MY GAWD MY EYES, I CAN SEE, IT'S A MIRACLE!
I want the MGS4 pack but I havn't got it yet so maybe I will wait a tid bit. I havn't touched LBP since R2 and Folklore.
I'm not critisizing you for the word "tragic", of course. If that's your opinion then it's perfectly fine by me. I can't do anything to change it, nor is it mandatory to do so. We're having a conversation, that's all! Hopefully, a conversation where different opinions are expressed.
My opinion is that glitches such as this, albeit not very common, are not something to bash a game for. The majority of titles today ship with problems even more serious. We're not supposed to look away of these problems, of course, but as long as these things get patched quickly (as in LBP's case so far), the player's frustration will remain low. It's almost common for titles with heavy network functions to have some problems in the first period.
@Nick:
Couldn't agree more :)
Quest, my PS3 is fucking old news. If you spent less time bitching about me not having a PS3 and more time reading about how I have a PS3, maybe you'd realize I had a PS3.

No Jim as you may know i took a small break about your bad journalism ... that's why i'm surprised to see that you have a PS3 .
Grandma gave you money to spend for xmas ? :)
...its what you expected.
Seriously though, it is deleting just LBP data right? When I first heard about this it was made out to be that Sackboy was running around eating up save files for other games, which definitely didn't sound right.
Grandma gave you money to spend for xmas ? :)"
No, I made the money out of people like you. Thanks!

yeah that's why it took you 2 years for having a PS3 ... money is good in your hood loll
Protip: Moving from one country to another is expensive. I know for people like you, yet to move out of Mom's house, this is hard to grasp, but people who actually understand how money and savings work, it's not too difficult a concept.
There are more important things in life than a PS3. Not that you could believe that.
I feel like if I wanted a level editor I'd go buy any number of PC games. Making my own stuff is boring to me. I buy games to be entertained by a developer's creativity and enthralled by a story line. I have no interest in this title, but I do agree it's sad it's had so many issues.
Now let's all take pity on Epic and Gears of War 2.

hehehe Jim ... i'm sure i left mom's house way before you did. you have to find something better then this kid ... 'cause compare to me you are a kid.
Fucking Commie.
I'm sure if I was in front of you i would smell shit in your pants :) little dumbass 15 years old loll funny
You wanna put a wager on that?
Come on, I dare ya. I double dare ya, you fucking Commie.
