S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for five bucks? SOLD! photo

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is on sale for a measly $5 from now until November 2 on Steam. If you know the importance of this scenario, chances are you already own the game.

If not, well, you have little to no excuse not to. The game may be far from perfect, but what it lacks has been made up for by its devoted fanbase of modding extraordinaires. Now would be the opportune time to see what all the fuss is about before the stand-alone Call of Pripyat expansion is out here in the States.

And while we're on the topic of cheap PC games that are worthy of your time, The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut is 50% off -- that's $19.99 -- until the 29th of this month.

There is only one thing that really annoyed me in Stalker - respawns.

I've been curious about this game for a while, so I had to pick it up. I'm not sure when I'm going to get around to playing it, but at least I have it now!

I was wondering if it was worthy to uy it now because I feel saturated of games at the moment, but I think I will put it on the hold of installation in that case. I still have to finish HL2, HL1 and even start HL2:Episode One.

Kinda want to get this even though I know it won't run passably on my laptop. I'll always have the Steam account later on.

And is it me, or does that thing in the image look like it just wants a hug?

Monodi: Hope you play them in order, that is HL1 then HL2 then HL2:episode 1. Someone recently made a cblog about how he didn't like HL1 because he played it after he was spoiled by HL2.

@Monodi

Heed Narishma's advice!!!

@Narishma

It always saddens me when people do that to themselves. What a shame!

I'm wondering if I should finally use that Visa gift card to buy The Witcher and Stalker. I've already played them -cough- through not so legal means. I never got around to finishing either of them though.

I would actually buy Stalker and gift it to people if I was into buying stuff on steam. Just so it would be easier to explain why I love it so much.

I'm kinda low on spare funds, and if I get these, I might not have enough money to pre-order L4D2. Plus, I don't think my computer can handle The Witcher anyway. Might get S.T.A.L.K.E.R. though.

Buy this. Then get the "Oblivion Lost" mod, which vastly improves it. I'd advise you to get AMK, but unfortunately that only works with 1.4, and you can't downgrade steam titles :(

@Narishma

I started playing Half Life 2 before the first one and I am stuck in a part were you use sentries, pretty advanced I guess. I already know about the strange appearances of GMan in Half Life during the progress, but i still have to solve several mysteries. i guess the real advice would be to clear the first Half Life first. Episode One will be logically the one I play right after I clear HL2, although i already spoiled myself the ending of Episode Two. I was jsut too curious :(

Surprisingly fun. I enjoyed my first hour or so of it immensely. My only gripe is a sort of awkward list of functions for the keyboard, like leaning, which I took out and put that to different commands.

I'm considering buying STALKER since I've been wanting to play it for a while. It'll be some time until I get to it but 5 bucks sounds like a deal.

Also, everyone should buy The Witcher RIGHT NOW.

Its a shame that German users canīt access the game on steam! Does the Multiplayer work in this versioN?

Oh excellent, I had only played Clear Sky while I've heard Shadow is much more different from a story perspective I've been told it's for the better so this is an instant buy right off the bat!

would these mods work with the steam version? Sometimes steam likes to screw up mods.

Tangent: I wonder if the game's web site still accuses the U.S. of causing the Chernobyl accident in the first place. Boneheads.

Still, for $5 this is a steal.
