S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat aiming for February photo

The mutant up there is (barely) living proof that games don't have to be set in the dark to be creepy.

Call of Pripyat, the follow-up to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, is nearing release for those of us not living in Russia or Germany. We can't have our mutants grunting in anything but fluent English, you dig?

PC gamers, especially those looking to justify DirectX 11's existence, will surely want to take note. And if GSC Game World's plans haven't recently changed, there's a chance the series could come to consoles in one form or another once this sequel is all said and done.

Although, the more I think about, mods are so important to these games that it may not even be worth it on anything but a PC.

I honestly couldn't care less about CoP. The rest of the series has been so powerfully awful, I don't care anymore.

Shadow of Chernobyl is one of my favorites of the decade, so even if Clear Sky was a bit disappointing (but still pretty good), I'm still pumped for this game.

It's definitely hate/love for most people, I loved the first game and so did my friends but many people found it cumbersome and boring. It's one of those games that you have to make fun for yourself.

It's the bugs that turn me off. Learn to code GSC.

Fluent English? Have you played any of the STALKER games? :P

I do love STALKER, there's an excellent game in there but there are just so many layers of shit smeared over it that yo have to be prepared to look past.

Why not release something for consoles? It wouldn't be taking anything away from PC-gamers, and a lot of us just prefer consoles.

It was also released in other European countries like Ukraine or Poland. It will be released tommorow in Czech Republic and Slovakia (possibly was released/will soon be in Romania and Hungary, but I'm not sure about those) so change that shit about it being available only in Germany and Russia. Good game.

SoC (the first game) was amazingly bad ass... had so much atmosphere and some mechanics that were pretty rare for the time (gun condition/jamming).

Never played clear sky due to the bad press it got but I'd definitely be up for the sequel to the first.

I loved SoC despite all of its flaws in the original release. A few patches and mods added on to it, and it was an outstanding game in all respects. The final 'secret' level is still one of the most intense running fire fights I've ever played in a FPS.

@HEL105: STALKER is a PC game through and through. If a studio doesn't have the proper budget one or more SKUs of a title suffer in the porting process across all available systems.

For me, as a PC and console gamer, I prefer to play PC games on the PC if they are designed for it. As such, I had no desire to play KotOR or Jade Empire on the PC either. It's more than simply porting over a title and requires a lot more design work, new code, and new assets in the porting process. Comparing Dragon Age PC to Dragon Age console highlights many of the changes that need to be made for a primarily PC title (that's focused on PC input) to exist on the console.

That said, if you ever do get into PC gaming, STALKER is a rare gem in the crowded game market for fans of shooters and RPGs.

I loved both STALKERs, but they're flawed beasts. Buggy nonsense, and like others said, it's a game that you have to look pas the problems to love.

Give it a try with an open mind when Pripyat comes out. From people who have played the Russian release, the bug issues are gone.

@HEL105, if you've played it, it becomes pretty obvious it just wouldn't work out very well on a console. The AI and graphics would be tough to make work, but more importantly the gameplay just wouldn't translate over to a gamepad very well. It's very reliant on leaning, for one.

For anyone planning on playing Shadow of Chernobyl I highly recommend using this enhancement mod. STALKER Complete 2009 generally improves the game overall, while still keeping the original feel.
