Last year, it was announced that Ukranian studio GSC was closing and that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 had been canceled. This week, it turns out that the long-awaited radioactive survival FPS is back on the menu!
"The Stalker team is extremely happy!", says the Stalker Facebook page. "Why? Because we are continuing work on Stalker 2 after the holidays."
That's great news. There really isn't another game quite like S.T.A.L.K.E.R on the market, so I'm beyond pleased that the team is getting another crack of the whip. I can go back to looking forward to it now.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
so this game was good, right?
I love this series, but it would have to depend on your tolerance for bugs. These games have a tendency to be a bit quirky on the technical side.
Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky are still a bit bugged and need some modding to polish them up a bit (the Complete mod for both is pretty good.) Call of Pripyat is actually fairly stable on its own, though a mod that allows it to use 3Gb of memory is very good to have since in more intense sections it has a tendency to CTD. All are good games and have great atmospheric game play.
YAY, SOOO HAPPY!!
next time i hear someone complain that this will be consolised crap i'm going to slap them and remind them that we should just be glad this game exists!
Stalker:SoC is amazing. Just do two things:
a) make sure it's patched up to date
b) get and install the "Complete" mod for the game, as it revamps and improves practically everything in the game.
c) stick with it. the stalker games are a bit confusing at first, but once you catch on they are some the most immersive and smart games out there.
I replayed SoC last summer and enjoyed the hell out of it.
I won't lie, I *am* concerned about the game going cross-platform. The AI system uses a huge amount of RAM I guess (it tracks NPCs even when you are not around etc), and as we know the consoles have less RAM than your average Pentium III did. The engine now supports DX11, too, so I have to wonder if that will be kept. Still, I'm hoping it will be good, and it's great if more people get to enjoy this series.
@shiftdraw call of pripjat may have less crashes and glitches but if you set one setting wrong it wont boot. Its a stable game for stalker standards but I wouldn't call it stable.
