Ryu is back with a scythe in Ninja Gaiden 2's TGS Trailer (Update)

8:21 AM on 09.12.2007, Dale North 24 comments

     Xbox 360

Yesterday, stealthy screenshots made their way around the 'net, showing us just enough to get us excited. It seems like the newly released Ninja Gaiden 2 trailer is out to do the same thing; sneak up on us, surprise us, and then disappear.

If nothing else, this video is solid confirmation that Ryu Hayabusa has added a new weapon to his arsenal. Aside from the regular katana and kunai, it looks like Ryu will be toting a huge scythe around. It also looks like fun to use. No complaints here!

[Update: The freshly launched Xbox.com Web page mentions the addition of water-based gameplay (on-water battles?) to mix up the action. They also talk about new "finishing blow" system, which is supposed to add more gore, hopefully involving the scythe. Finally, the auto-heal system is there to bring a bit of accessibility to newcomers -- it restores semi-permanent damage at save points.

Team Ninja promises a compelling story in this 30-hour quest, which will lead players from Tokyo to New York to the Netherworld. There's also Xbox Live leaderboards for Karma scores as well as a new Master Ninja Tournament.

If the name Ninja Gaiden 2 wasn't enough to sell you already, these screenshots and this video will do the trick nicely.

We look forward to more scythe-to-limb action soon.]

Do motherfuckin want!

I actually got around to beating Master Ninja mode on Ninja Gaiden Black; hope they make just as awesome as that experience was. Oh, but can you make the whirlwind shuriken actually useful? Please?

P.S. I don't hate you really, but you beat me to it, so I'm obligated to.

Man, this trailer sucks. I saw the screenshots and heard there might be a trailer at TGS and this was it. Disappointing. The screenies are much better.

Looks pretty. Favorite part was when the camera pans and pulls out and Ryu sycthe goes above the letterbox.

Whipple are you sick of seeing these contentless teasers as well? They're like tiny little carriages on a long hype train. You know what gets me hyped? Gameplay.

@zomB Eter - No way! You can't do that. I never thought anyone could compete against Hyabusa but I just couldn't decide between those two. Both of them would win hands down against anyone else but against eachother... I dunno. Ryu never loses but Wolverine can regenerate, even better after he has his adamantium removed and put back in. Plus his luck at surviving and awesome power. It would have to be a stalemate. Especially if you're just talking about sheer awesomeness of the characters.

Hey, a giant scythe works with anything. Farmers, reapers of souls, ninjas, fiancial accountants. I tells ya if you walk around the street with a giant scythe you'll get compliments and will offer a big boost of confidence.

Claws > Scythe. Well enjoy NG: S PS3 owners, maybe TN will feel enough pity to toss you a port of this one on the PS4. The new damage detection looks awesome, can not wait to make me some amputees. The trailer really was lacking though, I want more than a teaser, though I am still incredibly pumped up for this game.
