[As originally posted on Japanator]

While at CAPTIVATE 08, Nick Chester got to see a little preview of Street Fighter IV's anime sequences. Each character in the game will be receiving anime-style prologues and endings to accompany the in-game cutscenes. He posted some screenshots, but now we have the full video of Ryu's prologue.

The video starts off with a seemingly beaten Ryu being confronted by Akuma. Akuma looks to be trying to drive out the essence of Evil Ryu, which just makes Ryu remember his master, who fell at the hands of Akuma. This memory reignites Ryu and gets him back up to take on Akuma. Ryu is about to throw a giant Hadouken into Akuma's face when an old friend steps into the fight.

Overall, pretty impressive. The animation looks great and it looks like a lot of work is going to be put into all of these movies. Granted, anything is better than the simplistic endings from the previous games.

I'll say it once, and I'll say it again: the art director of SFIV needs to be fired. Three art styles so far shown? really? come on now. First we had the painting like trailer... then the game's graphics, then anime? Are they bipolar? tripolar?

I mean, the whole anime is nice, but for gods sake stick with something!

It's nice that the SFIV cinema's are in 2D.

Too bad the rest of the game is not.

Hopefully that was only for this trailer... Be nice to finally play their master. I want Sheng Long :P

I like these anime sequences, as they remind me of the animated movie. :O)

Personally dislike this type of anime. Drawn out, dramatic, noise making sessions rather than actual fighting elements when it's called for. Hopefully the game is good, because this does nothing to draw me at all further into the storylines behind the characters.

Now why in the bloody hell didn't Capcom take this art direction into the game? This style + 2D + HD = WIN!

Artemus, that wasn't the Street Fighter theme, that was jjust Ryu's theme from SFII, also known as one of the greatest gaming tunes ever. There are some mad remixes on OCRemix if you're looking for more.

The opening movie was awesome. Ball shatteringly, tit rippingly, ass gapingly awesome. I can't wait.

There were also a few notes from Ken's theme when, appropriately enough, Ken showed up. Ken's stage from SF2, and its various remixes in subsequent games, has always been my favorite from the Street Fighter series.

Hopefully, this indicates that the music will be awesome remixes of the good, old SF2 music, instead of the completely original (but still decent in their own way) themes from the likes of Street Fighter 3 or Alpha 3.

And for that matter, now that I've watched it again, I caught a slight hint of Akuma's theme as he was giving his rant at the beginning, as well.

I love it when fighting games actually put a little effort into the endings instead of some typed epilogue.

man that was some niceness. too bad the game doesnt look similar to that. if we could go from a cut scene like that straight into some naurto ultimate ninja storm quality cel shading, that would be perfect.

this game is definitely a day one purchase for me, but i cant help but wish akiman was the lead art director here.

Outstanding, just like i expect of Capcom. Don't like anime, tough shit, as SF has always had those design sensibilities. SF was always going 3d, its just Capcom had trouble adjusting to the demands of a 3d fighter (thats why Rival School rocks, but SF EX Alpha 1,2 and 3 aren't that great).

I too would rather Capcom invested in another SF anime movie than, more live action RE.

@Jonathon Holmes
You want me to call the WAAHHHmbulance for you? :) Honestly, though, I think it's so stupid to complain, "It's not 2D! Wah!" You want a new SF game, well it's not going to be in 2D. Get over it, everyone. This is not the 2D era. People only make 2D games for specific niche audiences and platforms. 2D is not better all the time.

@Sharpless,

Granted, 2D isn't better all the time, but I wouldn't mind it this last time, even it's though looking pretty damn good, googly-eyes and all. I'll buy it since it's Street Fighter and looks playable based off of what it is and how good it looks.
