Rygar on the NES is something of a guilty pleasure of mine. The game makes little sense, has some poorly implemented concepts and bosses that just seem unfair. Despite this, I still like to pop it in on occasions where I want to run around killing monsters as the Diskarmor is a really cool, fun weapon to use for such a purpose. So, when an updated version of Rygar was released on PlayStation 2 a few years ago, I eagerly snapped it up. Sadly, it wound up being a largely overlooked clone of Devil May Cry.

Now we're getting what I had assumed was a port of that PS2 release on the Wii. It looks better graphically and we've been assured that it's not the same game, so I may give the series another chance. Especially since I desperately want an excuse to dust off my Wii again. I just pray that waggle does not completely dominate gameplay. Shaking the remote for every toss of the Diskarmor is going to get old very fast.

What say you, Destructoid? Interested in throwing around a shield around and killing mythical beasts?

Likewise, though I'm interested what 'This video is private' means. Are they showing it off on Stickam?

I remember playing Rygar, I just don't remember exactly what I felt about it except that I was beating up giant woodlice. I think. Also, Rygar seems to be basically Guily Gear's Bridget done as manly as possible. Without Teddie Combo's.

I've never heard of this series. Looks alright, I guess. Maybe a rental?

Sorry about that. I totally forgot that I was fiddling with something and neglected to set it public.

I liked Rygar but I refuse to play this game since they made the main character an emo Sqaure character.

Are you kidding? This totally needs to be waggle based. It could be a Wii fit for guys.

I didn't like the PS2 Rygar and this certainly doesn't look pretty, but throwing around shields still sounds fun.

I can't believe one of the Wii's potential killer apps is a game that came out 7 years ago.

Here's what I don't get, why the re-design for Rygar? He looked fine in the PS2 version and he's all weird looking with a loud outfit and big white spiky hair.

"assured it's not the same game"
Someone point out 1 thing in that trailer (other than Lance Bass) that makes this different from the PS2 Rygar.

Conrad...
I, too, had a love/hate relationship with the original NES "classic"... The music was pretty damn sick!
I'll never, eeeever forget how long and difficult that damn game was. I believe I even beat it, I think... That was a helluva long, long time ago! =)
I've never played the PS2 update...
Is it worth checking out?

Ha ha ha!

I doubt that this is a different game from the ps2 version. I didn't beat the ps2 version because I got bored of it, but a few of the bosses and stages look familiar to me. The two main differences I notice is that the graphics look sharper and more detailed, and Rygar's color scheme has changed from red to white.

I didn't get far in Rygar on PS2. It was good/average and the music was righteous, but it just didn't grab me. None of this looks familiar to me. I dunno, I guess I'm interested

It's sad that the PS2 version didn't garner more interest. Then again, I am an action adventure whore.

When did Koji Igarashi decide to make a Rygar game?

The music makes me smile. :)

I was pretty sure this was a direct port with the main character changed and a new mode. IGN reviewed it back in December, pretty bad from what I remember and it got delayed so... Probably pretty bad.

Too bad though, an original rygar game on Wii could potentially fill the void until Icarus...Potentially compete with GoW aswell.
