@Moggle
The point is it's hillarious to laugh behind his back as chances are that was and comment that he expected EVERYONE to agree with him. Despite most of the people who watch his stuff probably do play alot of video games! It's OK to get pissed off when people act like pricks dude.
Oh fuck I've said I like Ryan Reynolds and Cliffy B in one day, am I going to get banned from Dtoid now? O_o
If you spend any time on IRC or with certain community member groups, Ryan Reynolds is rather well liked. IT's just that his remark is a little odd, considering his nerd fan base
Yeah, maybe. Just because someone doesn't like something you like doesn't make them a prick. I don't cry when someone says comics are a waste of time because to some people they are, sames as games are to other people. I've got mates that aren't interested in games, whats the big deal?
The reaction to this comment sums up why people look at internet posters as childish idiots, somebody has said he doesn't like something we like and we want to behead the fucker!
I despair sometimes
Don't we all agree videogames are a huge waste of time compared to: meet real people, go out, do sports, visit a museum, etc etc.
They're still awesome though.
By the way only the first two words were directed at you, just read it back and it seemed a rant at you. It wasn't!
I'm with turbostraw and the others.
Over 90% of videogames are a waste of time, I play them for entertainment and to waste my time. I WANT to waste my time but I would also like games to be more fulfulling. Unfortunately, that's not the case most of the time. When was the last time you grew emotionally or changed your perspective on something because of a videogame? I bet it's not as often as other media.
Even shadow of the colossus wasn't exactly Joseph Conrad was it? Sure, it was emotional, but it was just a more emotional way of telling the same videogame story with a little twist. When I finished it I didn't step out of my house and see the world in an entirely new light.
Saying something is a waste of time is not the same as saying something is a way to waste time. Unless you're retarded, you know what he's saying.
We've all played games instead of doing shit we SHOULD have done, and we've all started a game thinking "ten minutes" or "one level" and ended up doing it for several hours without realizing it.
Come on, Destructoid. This is the kind of misquoting, trolling bullshit you get on the anti-gamers for all the time. You're better than this.
I never go against or with the collective. I just speak my mind, man. So, it's just you.
It super sucks that a waste of time like this blog can get so many hits, yet a well-written blog concerning something of gaming importance gets little fanfare.
Moral the story?
Ryan Reynolds brings blogs comments.
Tongue twister?! =)
It's true. I agree that this story is not much. Look at my tag under the header picture: "Non-news". I wrote in a manner that I thought might be funny. I mean, Ryan Reynolds is an actor that I know a lot of guys like, especially gamers, and when he said this comment, it can be regarded as a jerk comment. That is how I interpreted it.
Of course, it has gotten me more comments than I ever expected (or have ever received), and offered a funny celebrity post on a light Thursday evening. Big deal.
Now, I agree with you that interesting and important stories get little fanfare. Well, why don't you start offering interesting commentary into those stories as opposed to commenting in, yes, a mindless article written in fun about talking head from the entertainment industry. I mean, I had a fantastic interview with the creator of Tetris. I broke some news in it about the future of the game, got linked to other sites, and generally pulled of, IMO, a AAA interview. I got 14 comments. Pretty much everyone of my interviews have been like that, and I am especially proud of those Q&As.
I expected that I wouldn't get that much attention then, and I expected this post to garner some attention, cause, well, these types of posts DO garner attention. Notice that I've done my best to stay away from much direct commentary on this article, cause, well, I didn't need to. You guys did all of the discussion, and carried things along long after I said anything. It's no longer just me.
Also, I think Dtoid has been pretty clear all along that, as a blog, we offer a wide gamut of articles. It's fair to say we can post this, right? Would you read nothing but thought provoking interviews and features? Probably not. So I think we can all relax a little bit, right?
Understood. I think "light/humorous" blogs, such as Reynold's, are fun and necessary once in a while.
Sorry, I'm not upset or anything, man.
One thing I've noticed, about this community, is how sensitive the members can be.
Lighten up, people.
Smile. =)
That's why I made sure to get a link to the original post, and people can make their decisions there, you know? And as for the sensitivity of the community, I would have to say that generally anything gaming related, tend to be defensive. I mean, look at Jonathan Ross' Fanboy Fridays. It's just the way things happen to be. So there you go!
Stories like this devalue Destructoid's reputation as credible journalists.
