Rumortoid: Valve, EA to reveal Left 4 Dead 2 at E3 next week photo

E3 is right around the corner, and Destructoid has been hearing all sorts of juicy rumors. A lot of things are being said, and among them a very reliable source has informed us that Valve and Electronic Arts are looking to reveal Left 4 Dead 2 at E3 next week.

L4D 2 will see four different survivors battling the infected horde as they try to survive the game's four scenarios. The game is said to be set during the same time frame and locations as the first title, but the four new survivors will be fighting off the infected in other parts of the same locations. To us, it sounds a bit like Ada sidequests from Resident Evil 4 -- while Leon was going through his mission, Ada was running around the same areas, doing her own thing.

We're also told to expect new guns, as well as a variety of melee weapons like a baseball bat, axe, and chainsaw. Players should also brace themselves to come face to face with at least one new special infected "boss" character... something big. And fast.

If what we're hearing is solid, Left 4 Dead 2 is planned for the PC and Xbox 360. While the information we received was vague, the source had been reliable in the past, and the idea of a sequel to Destructoid's 2008 "Game of the Year" was too exciting not to share. If this pans out, we hope to see more -- at least in the form of an announcement trailer -- at E3 next week.

I doubt it. I really don't thin this is a sequel, more likely an Expansion of some kind. Valve isn't stupid, they know that if they just use the same areas from different perspectives, they will be criticized for it.

Not to mention that it's way too soon for a L4D sequel, not to mention very uncharacteristic of Valve to do so. I expect this to be DLC, not a brand new full-fledged game. I think more likely will be the full-on reveal of HL 2: Episode 3, rather than a sequel to L4D, which won't happen.

If it does turn out to be DLC, count me in for that. That idea sounds amazing for a piece of DLC.

This would be the fastest turn-around for a sequel in valve's history by about 1000%, ie: no.

They're still slowly releasing TF2 material, my guess is once all the updates are out they'll start with L4D. Both games initially arrived with minimal variety but enormous amounts of polish, and then they'll update each one in time.

No sequel. That would be foolish.

THAT SAID: i would not be dismayed to hear announcements for some mad DLC

Yeah, this doesn't like Valve's approach at all

Valve already denied that they would ever be adding melee-only weapons to the series. This is complete and total BS. Not believing it for a second.

As a huge fan of L4D, I don't really see the need for a sequel. New maps to play on is all the game needs to continue to be interesting forever.

@embel: they have said multiple times, DLC is and always will be free.

As much as I love L4D (I still play it weekly), this sounds like an expansion more than a true sequel. I'd rather have the new weapons, characters, and levels added to what already exists as an add-on than a stand alone title since it sounds rather similar.

Either way, though, more L4D is good L4D. Bring it on.

I'll believe it when I see it. If anything is coming out for L4D, it's going to be DLC.

"in other parts of the same locations"

mmmmm I'm not so sure I like the sound of that, I'd rather have totally new campaigns, but hey new campaigns are new campaigns and new characters, weapons and infected is cool

this probably is going to be an expansion has everyone else has already mentioned

Wait, Valve is putting out a sequel for a game that's not even a year old yet?

WHAT?!

This is Valve we're talking about, it takes them two or more years to make a third of a game.

I completely agree that they should release new missions via download instead, with, and this is the key, different areas (new movies set in new locations).

The 'same locations' line in the article is very, very disappointing to me. If true it will make me think a lot less of Valve as a developer. The game's great but damn, it needs more than 4 levels.

I see this as being a huge expansion, which si fine by me. A new option for more survivors, and the inclusion of a new NPC boss infected, as well as new weapons and melee tools just SCREAMS expansion.

This isn't real. And if it is, Valve doesn't have anything to do with it. And if that's true, I really hope the sue the fuck out of EA.
