Rumortoid: Tomb Raider reboot info and screens photo

So we all kind-of-sort-of knew that Tomb Raider was going to get yet another reboot after the underrated Tomb Raider: Underworld didn't sell as well as Eidos had thought it would. However, if these leaked screens and descriptions are true it's a much bigger reboot then any of us expected. Reportedly from a mole inside Eidos, the screens show a much younger, harder and less sexified Lara doing battle on horseback and fighting off some very nasty looking creatures.

It's all concept art of course, but the details below the images describe the game as open world with a survival horror flare, which is a massive departure from what Tomb Raider games are right now. That may make a little sense since the description also says that the game will be a total reboot of the character, taking her back to square one much like the trend in Hollywood these days. Lara, young and inexperienced, will be stranded on an island where things with claws are going to attack her. The descriptions in the image seem to make the game sound far less puzzle adventure and far more action adventure.

As a fan of the recent Tomb Raiders and also a fan of the series' focus on puzzle solving gameplay, this is all very disturbing news for me. Not only is Tomb Raider in the middle of a story arc right now, they just rebooted her origin story and the games have been getting solid reviews, despite Conrad's not so decent take on the last one. Are others concerned about this or does everyone else think that Lara needs an overhall of epic proportions?

She's still a far cry from a Rhona Mitra doppelganger, but I can see what you mean. I've never been a Tomb Raider fan so for me a reboot wouldn't really matter anyway, but hopefully they can make it great so I can have a reason to enter the series.

I liked the first two titles. When Tomb Raider 3 came along it began to stagnate for me, and Angel of Darkness ruined the series for me. I play some of Legend and enjoyed it, but I think it would be a good idea to keep certain aspects of what made Lara a popular character and the series a popular franchise while turning in a new direction overall.

At least she's still busty.

....What? Am I actually supposed to care about Lara Croft's character now?

Looks like they are trying to make her look a little more like Megan Fox there. Isn't she supposed to be taking over the role?

Anyway, as much as I'd like to say I'm done with the franchise... for some reason I always check out the new entries in it. I guess my fond memories of the old games keep my hope alive.

She almost reminds me of Shauna Macdonald from The Descent. The concept actually sounds very cool.

It can't be worse than the last 6 Tomb Raiders (well, Legend was ok).

Underworld was honestly quite awesome. I certainly enjoyed it more than the disappointment that was Prince of Persia. But that said, I can see why they want to reboot the series. Tomb Raider's puzzle emphasis is great for those who are fans of adventure, but as Uncharted and RE5 have shown, brain-dead puzzles with twice the action is what really sells.

And if the opening pic is related, the reboot includes not only the breast augmentation between games 2 and on, but the one before game 1.

@Necro-bestial Anal Butt Sex: i kept thinking i had seen that face before, yes, Rona Mitra, and i have no complaints there.

She looks like a fusion between original Lara and L4D's Zoey, not that this is necessarily a bad thing. Much like Zoey she looks scratched and dirtied like one is supposed to after a few days out in the wild. And the slightly more modest proportions help.

If this will save this once popular franchise however... eh, let's wait for the final game and see what difference it can make.

And it seems she idled to get the Huntsman, silly cheat.

I hate the new design. That is not Lara Croft... well it is, it just doesn't look right. Eidos fail.

So...the reboot of just a few years ago isn't good enough anymore for sales? I'm confused, because it seemed like Legend and Anniversary got good praise when they came out, even if Underworld didn't.

@ covah

She doesn't look like Lara Croft because this looks like a real person and not some nightmare woman with big tits and a weird face left over from a PS1-era character designer. She doesn't look the same, but given the choice, I'd pick her over any of the old renders.

That's a real shame. I quite enjoyed Tomb Raider Underworld and the recent rebooted series, even downloaded the two packs of DLC for TR:U. If Eidos were concerned about sales, then maybe they could think about not realising it in the Christmas Rush, when a lot of better games were released.

Oh well. Hopefully this is just a concept that they won't go through with, and they'll give us back the classic Lara. Underworld was, I felt, a good game, just with issues that Conrad pointed out in his review. Fix those and they'll have a pretty good game.

If this is what the "new" Lara looks like, this completely explains how they think they'll get away with casting "pretty-face-on-a-stick"... err... Megan Fox... in the role for the next movie.

That said, this is not Lara. THIS is Lara.

Damn. Screens got lawyered. I really wanted to see them.

I'd love to see the Tomb Raider series get a new Lara. The current one is such a shallow character in my opinion, especially compared to Nathan Drake or Indiana Jones. I've never found her moon-sized ta-tas appealing, either. I'm more of a B cup guy.

WHAT?? Another reboot?? How many reboot do they want to do? I mean, sure, many movies had reboots, but this is far beyond ludicrous. Who will buy ANOTHER first Tomb Raider!? They should learn from their mistakes and continue the damn series and not repeat their f*cking mistakes, damn it.

I'm gonna have to wait for the reveal to pass final judgement. I liked Legend and Anniversary, I still haven't played Underworld. I thought they were doing fine recently, they got rid of the confusing level design and bad controls that had been hampering the series for years. Now they may just want to copy other successful games.

This whole reboot thing is getting out of hand. Why fix what isn't broke?
