Newbie Dtoider skyler just pointed out a whopper of a Matlocking. Last week, the DOJO surprised everyone by announcing that the Stickers would be able to power up characters on the Adventure mode. Some of the stickers would only work with certain characters though. What most people didn't notice from that update was that the certain characters that the stickers would work for are shown on the bottom of the screen.

Now here's where things get interesting. Last week, a video preview of Brawl was released on the Japanese Wii Web site. That preview though had been modified at some point so up until about an hour ago, the stickers segment showed Jigglypuff , Ness and a Pokemon known as Lucario as what we can only assume as playable characters in Brawl. Nintendo was quick to cover this up though and quickly replaced the video with the old one. And yes, I did see the icons with my own eyes. Of course, this is the Internet, so screen caps were taken of it too, as you can see above (With Jigglypuff and Lucario) and in the gallery below (with Ness). Until Nintendo and the DOJO officially confirm anything though, I'm slapping this with the Rumortoid. [Update: Here's the video in question. Fast forward to 4:20.]

Jigglypuff and Ness do make sense (and yes, I know I said he wouldn't be coming back ... shut up.) but another Pokemon sounds like over kill. Of course, if Brawl is really going to have 48 playable characters, then I guess it makes sense.

Proper credit goes out to Edible from the GameFAQs forums for this apparent Matlocking.

This is cool news, almost as good as having the game itself...... right?

専用シール = personal seal

It's next to the character icons, so basically, it means those characters are the only ones that can use that sticker.

The one with Ness and Lucas reads [PSI] 攻撃, which translates out into [PSI] Attack.

Another Pokemon is overboard, considering Pichu jumps the shark, but whatever.

ZekeThePlumber pointed out it could be the Pokemon trainer instead of Ness.
I think he has a good point there.

If you ask me, the face you think is Ness looks more like the Pokémon Trainer which would make a little bit more sense. It is a Pokémon sticker after all.

But interesting find nevertheless.

Actually, that Ness looks more like the Pokemon Trainer. I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble, but Sakurai said there would be no 'clone' characters, and Lucas is way too similar to Ness to not call a 'clone.

Now that I've thought about it, the Ness sticker makes much more sense as the Pokemon Trainer. But still, I heard other rumors about Ness being in, so I'm not concerned.

get rid of pichu, add PT: +2 Pokęmon.
get rid of mewtwo, add lucario: +/- 0 Pokęmon.
+2 Pokęmon for 0 roster slots = a good thing.
Hell, even if mewtwo were still in the game (if he is then why isn't he in the personal seal list?) it'd still be +3 for 1 and that's not overkill.

Well maybe you think another Pokemon is overboard, but let's count how many Mario characters there are, shall we? I mean, come on...

Personally I was holding out the hope that Lucario would make it into Brawl. He is my favorite Pokemon, after all. :)

eh, i'm thinking it's the pokemon trainer... I mean, it's a pokemon sticker and the other three characters that can use it are pokemon, only makes sense that the Pokemon trainer would be able to use the sticker that the pokemon can use, while it makes no sense that Ness could use it...

Not to mention that brawl said they were not going to make clones this time around, and Lucas has been shown to have pretty much Ness's move set(PK: fire, Thunder and magnet) with slight changes

Just so everyone is clear, that is Pokemon Trainer in the picture Hamza posted. Ness is in the other picture that NihonTiger90 posted.

I don't think Lucario is overkill at all. That just makes a total of 6 Pokemon, only 2 more then what Melee had. And if you count Pokemon Trainer as one character, then it's the same number of Pokemon Melee had. Mewtwo and Pichu aren't on the Pokemon sticker, so it looks like they aren't returning in Brawl.

Does this mean that every sticker has a playable character that it goes to then? Does that in turn confirm that Animal Crossing and Advanced Wars have playable characters?
But on the other hand there is a sticker for Nintendogs. Who could equip that? Fox?
Hamza CTZ Aziz's Avatar - Comment posted on 01/21/2008 01:59

DanielMachine: Some of the stickers only work with specific characters. So say the Nintendogs one, it will work with everyone. But if it's something specific like maybe a Kirby Star, it will only work with Dreamland characters.

Can anyone translate what the Pokémon sticker said? The reason Mewtwo isn't there may be because he uses psychic powers...

Another Pokemon might seem like overkill to you, but at least they picked one that makes sense. Lucario is a fighting type. He rocks the house.

Just to clarify, in the c-blog I said the first hatted character icon was Pokemon trainer and the second one in Ness and Lucas.

For anyone who still questions it compare the picture with the icon. He has tufts of hair that stick out from the sides.

If these pictures were taken from a game with everything fully unlocked, does this mean Mewtwo got the boot?

Now when you really look at the picture it does look like jigglypuff and lucario but the other doesn't look like ness but poke'mon trainer.(not to crush anyones dreams of ness coming back)Still i say nintendo is smarter than what people say and they'll keep all the original characters from melee.

Awesome news. But though I'm glad Lucario will likely be in the game, it's sad to see any Melee characters get cut, even MewTwo and Pichu.

I'm sure Nex (and a bunch of little Pokemon loving girls) are out there right now crying their eyes out, in the darkness of Pokemon relate grief.

This is even sadder than when Dumbeldoor killed Snape.

I hate to see Ness back in. The Masked Man is a far more original character with amazing moveset potential and I doubt the Mother series will get more then three reps.

In the first picture, it's definitely the Pokčmon trainer, not Ness, but that's definitely him in the second one. Yay!

The other two faces are definitely Jigglypuff and Lucario. Looks like Mewtwo's not going to make a return after all. ;_;

Now just announce Luigi, Cpt. Falcon, and NonClone!Ganondorf and I'll be complete.
