I don't know if this should be a Rumortoid as much as a Captain Obvious post, since it's barely surprising when a third party exclusive goes multiplatform these days (unless it's Metal Gear Solid 4, but let's not open up that can of worms again). Either way, what's one more bit of gossip on this very Rumortoidish morning?
To business then -- Tekken 6, formerly a PlayStation 3 exclusive, is now being said by lead designer Haruki Suzaki to be "undetermined," when asked about the final destination of the fighting game sequel. The game, slated for a December 2008 release, was formerly only announced for the PS3, but Namco Bandai may be having that selfsame change of heart that all companies seem to have when there's money to be made. Which is fair enough.
"No, it hasn’t been determined yet as of the moment," was all Suzaki could say when asked about PS3 exclusivity. Certainly not a confirmation of an Xbox 360 release, but a definite denial of sole PS3 rights.
Tekken is seen as very much a PlayStation thing. One of the game's characters even represented the PS2 in SoulCalibur II. A mulitplatform release will hardly provide some almighty blow to Sony (the company's suffered far greater hits) but it certainly continues to highlight that the way of the third party exclusive is hurtling ever closer towards death.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Unlike SoulCalibur4 Tekken 6 runs on a PS3 in arcades though, so I'm not so sure about that. Also that comment was made in a XBox-centric magazine. You may think of that what you want though.
I think Tales of Vesperia will have to be announced for PS3 before Tekken is announced for 360.
My idea of fun is not memorizing 30 button combos and I never found the animation fluid.
I still think SF3 is unbeatable.
You got 3-4 moves to learn and each super combo are done almost the same with each character.
You need to learn how to fight, not learn 50 moves by heart.
Call em nostalgic maybe :)
Since pretty much every other Namco game is on the 360, why wouldn't this one go as well. This shouldn't be a shock to anyone if it indeed happens.
Also, knickers.
This rumour was very very old however.
Be honest, after 7 games how likely is it that long time Tekken fans are going to play this on a 360? I don't like fighting games with a 360 pad anyway but something so ingrained into a dualshock as Tekken really won't sit well with me using anything else.

Pretty likely for this Tekken Fan, since I have a 360, and not a PS3.
Gamers nowadays seem to forget we're playing games to PLAY, not to support Sony or MS or whoever. If it's PS3 only, those who want to play it get a PS3 or shut up. If it's both, more power to Namco, more people can play it then."
I've wondered for a long time why this thought process still exists, and it seems like something that has just recently surfaced. I don't remember people back in the day saying "Oh please only come out for my Sega and not my buddies SNES! I HAVE to be able to lord this over him!!"
wtf.
I honestly hope exclusives become a thing of the past. There's games on all systems I'd like to play.
Win-win for everyone. More people get to play. Devs can make more money so they can make more games.
Ironic, since the way I beat all my friends is memorizing characters 10-hits in Tekken. :)
Actually they added the 8-way run thing to tekken 4 but people didnt like it and changed it back to the normal tekken style in tekken 5, which is the best in the series according to... everyone. And why make it similar to soulcalibur and DOA, its what makes it different. And it IS 3D, we tap up or down buttons twice to make em scroll from side to side since tekken 3. Do you think Street fighter fans would like their game to have full 3d roaming? i dont think so, same with us tekken fans.
