Rumortoid: Super Smash Bros Brawl Demo Coming Soon photo

Rumors are flying around the internet that Nintendo will be bringing a downloadable demo of their sure-to-be-hit game Super Smash Bros Brawl to the Wii sometime between now and when the game drops on February 10th.

Nintendo has thus far been extremely sheepish about both online promotions and playable demos for their upcoming games. But due to the type of game that Super Smash Bros Brawl is, I believe this rumor could be the truth. Where a small portion of Super Mario Galaxy or Metroid Prime 3: Corruption would likely take up huge chunks of memory, a demo for Brawl with just a couple of stages and characters may only take up the same amount of space as a N64 game. In fact, a brief inspection of the pic above tells that depending on the amount of memory you wish to spend on this demo, you can download more or less characters and game modes.

If anything makes me suspicious of this pic, it's that the concept seems a little too awesome for Nintendo to think of themselves. This is the sort of thing that a fan would think of, because unlike the the suits at Nintendo of America, the fans actually know how fun a demo channel like this would be.

Thanks JJBro1!

Waiting for wii online to crash because of X-mas kids down loading this demo en mass.

Too awesome to be real. Nintendo has no business tactics when it comes to making the fans happy.

It says "BETA" at the top. It seems a bit late for a beta doesn't it?

We'll know soon enough. Notice also that this this pic is in ENGLISH, meaning that if it's coming at all, it's coming to us.

That would be pretty sweet, maybe a test bed for future game demos over the Wiishop channel

Count me in for the "DO WANT" crowd, but skeptical that it's actually happening.

Too bad, take note of this Nintendo. This is what we want!

Shouldn't it require at least 2 characters to be of any use?

Doing this would make sense, therefore it is unlikely Nintendo would do it. Still, would be pretty awesome.

I agree with Ryan. "Beta" and not "Demo" makes me skeptical.

But if this pic is legit, it's likely stolen from NoA office software and is a work in progress.

So who knows?

Yeah, do want, etc, but I think this may actually be an old screenie taken by a beta tester or something.

I'm gonna have to call bullshit on this one. Nintendo doesn't NEED a demo to promote this game. More than likely it was a plot thought up by some rabid fan who wants nothing more than glory at the gamefaqs forum. That and the shady looking angle in a dark room doesn't help its cause either.

Sorry guys, you can mark this one down as "fake" for sure, those images are from a SSBB hoax way back in July '07 where a guy said he got a Wii message saying he got invited to a Brawl beta and offered him to download a Channel, he then proceeded to stall for a day straight saying that the download was huge and that he had to go to work and then once the channel did download he had t download each character/stage as a separate file, etc.

I'll find the link to the hoax, but trust me on this, this is fake and it's a revival of the hoax in a new skin

Im kinda surprised that they didnt make a Smash Preview channel like Metroid. They could release updates like Dojo does, and these new vids that have surfaced.

I wouldnt be surprised that this is fake. I agree it seems too awesome for Nintendo to come up with, and a little late in the game.

The words "BETA" and "DEMO" do not exist to NOA. This won't happen. It's fake. Do not get your hopes up.

Besides, it comes out on the 24th in Japan.

Yeah, sadly this was a prank on GameFAQs. To make it look legit, the chap uploaded these fake menu screens onto an SD card and viewed them on the Photo Channel so that they'd display on his TV.

The thread's gone, but the hoax remains. False alarm, folks.

Hoax originated from IGN board member "tedd.kramer" on August 30th, he registered on that day just to make the thread/hoax and kept it rolling for about 6 hours until he confessed to faking it. His account:

Original thread (Must have IGN forums account):

http://boards.ign.com/teh_vestibule/b5296/149511413/p1

Post of him confessing to faking the screenshots and the process he went through to make the hoax:

lol apparently he made a video of it as well.

I agree, this has to be fake.

Nintendo offering DS demo's and a service for them on the Wii is one thing, but Wii demos ? I don't think so. I think Nintendo would use the precious time used to make a demo on giving the dev team more time to polish their games. Besides, the Wii lacking a hard drive only makes the rumor harder to believe.

Even though its faked, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo did some sort of online video promotion similar to what they did to MP3. I wouldn't expect a demo, sadly.

Apparently, the Everybody's Nintendo Channel will support trailers for Wii and I think for DS as well. Also, the service is said to offer interviews and commercials, but that has only been confirmed for the Japanese version. Hopefully, the feature will allow publishers to promote their third-party titles.

You're right, this would be too awesome for Nintendo. Besides, I've waited this long, and playing a limited demo would just spoil the enjoyment of playing Brawl for the first time.
