Rumortoid: Star Ocean: The Last Hope coming to PS3? photo

I thought Star Ocean: The Last Hope was a pretty solid entry in the JRPG genre, and I have to admit I did enjoy playing an RPG in a space setting rather than the usual modern fantasy universe. The game was 360 only though, leaving out PS3 owners who wanted to play it -- at least, up until now.

Gamefly has leaked many a game because of their listings, and this time it's Star Ocean: The Last Hope for the PS3 that they have something up for. There's no info beyond this, and it's far from an actual confirmation, but it does makeme wonder if this is something we could see in the near future. Would you pick it up if this was indeed true?

Definitely pick it up. I've heard that it's not an excellent RPG, but I'd still give it a go.

I'd think about it if there is some extra content.

when it came to the 360 i was very excited and bought it right away. I love the story, the graphics, the characters. But the combat... The combat may be the worst in any RPG JRPG or any other type of RPG EVER! Rather of had a turn base or something then this. I hope to never see this combat system as long as i game.

Well it wouldn't surprise me. A lot games that look at MS exclusives are merely timed exclusives in the end. I will give it a try when it's available for the PS3.

I cant wait for the inevitable flood of ps3 rpg fanboys who will demand extra content so they have something to gloat about.

Im on the second disc right now, it's no mass effect but it's a solid game, i for one liked the combat, breaks up all the turn base JRPGs. But if you want your bang for your buck, it will keep you occupied!

THis is one of the worst RPG's I have ever played, I suggest anyone thinking about this to just rent it.

Haven't played it, due to poor words I've heard about it in the past. Also, I'm a bit confused why it's taken this long for them to port it. If there aren't any new features, I wouldn't think of any reason to pick this up.

Zeta Crossfire, you're insane. The gameplay was the ONLY saving grace to this game. The only way you could possibly enjoy this story and characters is if you have an undying love of all of Japan's crazy fetishes, from uber-jailbait-loli to uber-jailbait-loli catgirls.

The only saving grace was the combat, but that wasn't fun enough to justify lame dungeons, and possibly the worst story I've ever experienced in a game.

I'd pick this one up. The PS3 needs more RPG's and yes I'd want extra content. No reason they can't add it since it's not a simultaneous release.
The PS3 has more room on the disc as well, so add some stuff to it!
I don't own a RROD360, never will. I can play my older PS2 with no problems years later. With the RROD360 let it sit and it might explode in the closet! :P
It sure won't be useable or reliable after a few years.
The XBox360 is the Yugo/Chevy Vega of the gaming world!

I haven't played this, but assuming that it comes to the PS3 with no exclusive content, I believe that people with both systems will be able to accept this as a good thing: that a new audience will be able to pick up a high-profile game. It's only when they announce it as some "director's cut" a la Tales of Vesperia with additional content on PS3 (which might be coming out here, apparently?) that arguments start up.

@Necros Why not provide exclusive content? I mean the game has een out a while. No reason not to sweeten the deal. It also makes exclusives less impportant as to who gets what first. I firmly believe that expiring exclusives are ok. I also think that after a while making it for another system is a good business decision.
A year or more later PS3/X360 owners have already been done with their game anyway.

@Midgetsnowstorm
Nope all my PS units work like new and I take care of them. They all look like they just came out of the factory box.

My big gripe with XBox is it's totally unreliable. They have some decent games but that's useless if the console is always breaking down.
Besides many games end up on all systems anyway. :D

Honestly, my advice to any PS3 owners is skip this. The battle system is a lot of fun, but the characters are all the most infuriating group of jackasses you will ever have the misfortune of spending an extended amount of time with. It was like Square-Enix found the most annoying JRPG character cliches, then turned the dial up to 11 on all of their personality flaws.

I finally had to quit the game just because it was becoming a chore to sit through the horrible dialogue. When I actually want my characters to die because they're that infuriating, there's a problem.

@Steve Cebu - I used to joke with my co-workers at GameStop back in the day that the PS2 came out of the box broken, as we had many more returned in a single day than either Xbox or GameCube combined in a single day. Microsoft and Sony have merely swapped places this generation, only Microsoft has some level of REAL customer support as opposed to Sony.

Next time, why don't you think before clogging the Internet with your stupid?

@Necros - I still remember when Vampire Rain was announced as coming to the PS3 with bonus content, and the comments section on GameTrailers was along the lines of "LOLZ MS LOZES ANUTHER EXKLUSIV SONY ROX!", while everyone else shrugged and said "You want it? Take it!".

I don't know what it is with die-hard fanatics or where their reasoning is, but it's like they're happy with anything.

Then again, I'm still disappointed that Valkyria Chronicles isn't getting ported to 360 anytime soon. That's a game I really do want to play, as well as inFamous and M4G.

@ Steve Cebu

Exclusives are a concept that is never good for the consumer. It's basically limiting who gets to play a game, so it's always a good thing when another console's audience gets to play the game. However, by adding in additional content to that new release that is exclusive to the new release, that is in essence punishing the fans who not only bought the game in the first place, but might even have helped provide evidence that further sales would be possible. Publishers realize that unlike with new, special edition DVDs, few gamers will "double-dip" with their purchases, buying it again for very little new content, so it would be much more appreciative to the gamers who helped them out in the first place to make this content available to their original console. For an example of this done right, see Overlord 1 - the PS3 version included the expansion pack, which was also made available for download to the 360 owners who supported the game in the first place.

What you're advocating is exclusive game content just so fanboys can argue that they have the better game, something that simply leads to more internet stupidity.

I would pick it up. In my honest opinion, it should have been on PS3 in the first place - for Square's sake. Japanese are ideal audience for JRPG's (lol), so it would be only smart to release it on PS3 which has much, much higher install base than 360.

MS pouring money for exclusives isn't really a great thing for developers. Take Tecmo for example. They made half-baked Ninja Gaiden 2 exclusively to 360 and year or so later they turn it into 'new game', Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, which has everything NG2 should have.

As much as I love the Star Ocean series, this is, by a mile, the worst Star Ocean thus far. Painfully mediocre, and shit didn't get hot until the insanely boring post game dungeons.

Also, kaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy????????

PS3 owners ain't missing much.

While I admit its sucks for the other side when the other console gets content for a game they bought you can't show up to the party a year later empty handed and expect sales, you gotta offer some sort of enticement.

if this true and this will appear sometime in the near future it would be staring down demon souls, something that's making its rounds in the rpg forums as of late.this title also got bashed for being bad and did not even sell well in japan(someplace it was expected to fly off shelves) so its rep is somewhat damaged and the hype is gone, and then its gonna appear at full price 10 months later( I'm guessing) with litttle to nothing to differentiate it from the 19.99 used copy thats probably sitting across from it (thanks to gamestop) as eternal sonata proved thats called "sinking this ship before it even departed".

so no its not just for fanboys, if they want this to sell they have to do something to rejuvinate it, they have to offer something that the other side wont get or else they risk it being ignored for another game altogether making the effort put into the port a waste of time.

meh I thought it was a so so RPG (Tales of Vesperia and Eternal Sonata are more deserving of a pick up)Im hoping the PS3 version either comes out cheaper or with some new content along with it.

Honestly, I wouldn't even consider this to be a rumor. The box art for this game on the 360 never once said "Only for Xbox 360." What else would it go to?

Yea no, perhaps they aren't the most reliable console in the world but they are not unreliable, you make it sound like it breaks down just by looking at it.

Some of the best RPG's I've played in a long time have been reviewed Badly.

Will watch this with Interest if it's true.

Pedrovay: My Cross Edge says "Only on Playstation" :P
Kyousuke Nanbu: Unreliable isn't an unfair word to describe it. There are no real symptoms of a Red Ring, so there's no way of pre-empting it. An error so common with no symptoms before hand is "Unreliable".

Already own if for the 360, but I'll pick it up again for the PS3, provided they have extra content. Extra Playable characters (WELCH and Crowe, perhaps?), new outfits, new dungeon? Who knows....

@Stevecebu: Thats odd. I took care of my ps2's as well. I played the hell out of em, sure. but I always kept em ventilated and dust free. They broke anyhow. This is why i now own 2 just in case, though ones modded to play imports now because thats the only ps2 games I still care about.

Hint: Just because a system breaks down does not mean "omg they didnt taek care uf it"
