Rumortoid: Spore expansion on the horizon

Rumortoid: Spore expansion on the horizon photo
     Spore

According to Wired (via Hooked on Spore), a Spore expansion briefly appeared on two online retailer’s websites today before mysteriously vanishing. Both GameStop and Amazon had the expansion called Cute & Creepy Parts Pack slated for November 18th. Obviously fearing the wrath of Will Wright and Electronic Arts, the two retailers pulled the set.

Wired attempted to contact EA about the alleged expansion, but only received the “we don’t respond to rumor and speculation” line that we know all too well. Could this have been an accidental reveal by both retailers? Or is it the result of old information never getting swept under the rug?

If the expansion is real, then I have to say that the content is coming especially fast. At the same rate, I’d assume most people are getting bored of seeing a bunch of the same creatures hovering around Spore’s universe. I don’t know for sure though. Do you guys think an expansion is needed yet?

I'm pretty sure they're going to whore the franchise into oblivion, just like they did with The Sims 2 series and its numerous "stuff packs" and expansions.

I stopped playing about three days after it came out. Tried to play it yesterday and lasted about ten minutes before I was bored with. An expansion isn't going to give this game any legs.

Rumor? This is EA and Maxis we're talking about. Not just one expansion is confirmed. Probably 9.

Could be interesting. I'll be in a "wait and see" holding pattern for the moment, though.

I was going to say something witty like 'maybe the expansion will make it fun', but I've been beaten to the chase.

Maybe it will add more...science? There's been some speculation that an expansion could be closer to the original idea of simulating gravity wells and creating events through cellular automata.

Hey, isn't that really fucking weird that all that would actually be more fun than what Spore is right now? Being a digital mathematician still seems more interesting than questing for DNA berries for my phallic dinosaur.

AWESOME!

Except the game is an ode to underachievement and misleaded hype.
