Rumortoid: Spider-Man vs. Marvel Zombies photo

Plenty of rumors are coming out of the GAF concerning upcoming games, and here's one that's sure to excite Marvel fans -- Spider-Man vs. Marvel Zombies appears to be headed our way.

Like previous Spider-Man games, Marvel Zombies looks like it will be set in an open city. In the 2149 Marvel Zombies universe, you'll take on a variety of undead heroes and villains. The game is due out for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii consoles and will be rated T for Teen.

As with all rumortoids, this is speculation until official confirmation, but how does this sound to you? The arrival of a Marvel Zombies game really shouldn't be a shock considering its popularity, but whether it actually succeeds in its transition remains to be seen.

I'm with Reaprar, why is Spider-Man the only hero not effected? I'd prefer something more akin to Marvel: UT but with zombies. When one of your teammates gets killed in battle they become zombies and you hafta defeat them and lose the ability to play with them. That'd be awesome, imo.

I'm with the reaprar. Better to make it Marvel vs zombies, and if one person dies, you have to pick someone else from the roster. An hell, for those guys without travel form, put Angel to work. he's strong and can fly.

Spiderman was totally infected in the series. It should definitely be Ash vs. the Marvel Zombies.

I'd also accept Magneto, which would be cool, non-traditional, and canonical.

I'd much rather have a Marvel Zombies fighting game then another open world spiderman game.

im pretty sick and tired of everyone thinking marvel zombies is Gods gift to comic fans. it was OK. nothing spectacular about it. This really didn't have to become a game. I think that people are just more hyped over the marvel zombie concept rather than the comics' content. Well that's just one comic book nerds take on this.

It was great if you want to see Reed richards being a complete douche, and the Ash crossover was one of my favorite one-shots of last year. It's been one of the most realized publicity stunts marvel has injected into their canon.

The reason it's spiderman is because A) he was one of the few not INITIALLY infected, thus helping Ash try to get to Dr. Strange's place and B) because he was all whiny and bitchy and inherently HUMAN the whole time. Also, everyone outside of comic nerds loves Spiderman, and Marvel voted him the best superhero of all time - not for me, but hell, mass appeal yeah?

Mass appeal be damned :) The biggest reason Spiderman is a big deal now is because they took the well known, niche IP of spiderman from the comics and cartoons, and put him in a very (mostly) good movie series. Why not do the same with a blockbuster AAA game instead of a movie?

I understand business is business, and no amount of internet whine-theory will change that. But "because he's popular!" really stifles all the great possibilities of having dudes with powers run loose in an open world.

Enough with Spiderman already. It's so boring. Cant anybody there do something new..With the whole DC and Marvel universe at our disposal is it really time for another spiderman game. How many has that been now in the last few years?

Spiderman also had that awesome cartoon series. Honestly, I think that series was the number one reason Spiderman became so huge for our generation.

I was expecting that I would be the only one pissed off by the fact this was a "Spiderman game," but I guess not. Honestly, no more Spiderman. I've never been a big Spiderman fan, but the first two movies were decent. However, after seeing the third movie (which IMHO was possibly the worst movie ever made), I am sick to death of Spiderman.

However, I'll take an ultra-gory remake of the old Maximum Carnage game any day.

Why not get a good team together and put out a decent DC game instead? I'm dying for a great Batman game. I still go back and play the unforgiving NES Batman game to this day.

I agree that centering it around Spider-man sucks. They should give us a few characters from which to select rather than the annoying web slinger. And they sure as hell better have an Ash unlockable character!

Am I the only person who finds it peculiar that the hyper-gory Marvel Zombies is getting crammed into a T-rated game?

It should be super gory M-rated game. That would be awesome.

Spoiler alert!

Spider-Man is killed and turns into a zombie too, and Spider-Man kills and turns Mary Jane as well. I think The Punisher is one of the last hero's left alive in the Marvel Zombie universe.

If you think why they're usign spiderman from a devs point of view, it becomes logical. spiderman has been in HOW many games, so the formula and gameplay style is easy to recreate. there's many choices to choose from, and they can tweak it to the way they want it. also, out of all the superhero games i've played, i have to say, playing as spiderman has always felt like i'm playing as spiderman. cause if you REALLY think about it, his powers are unique. hulk is just a smash and bash sort of guy, who runs aboyut destroying everything sure you feel like hulk, but it doesn't leave much room for variety. that's just one example, but others are limited by their powers as well. i.e. their powers limit the gameplay that each character would create. who honestly felt like iron man in the iron man game? i felt like i was a crazy meteor flying about everywhere that could shoot weak little beams of light at enemies. and when on the ground i was a target for a barrage of bullets and tank shells. i felt like a weak piece of shit. it isn't exactly easy to convert control of superpwoers into a decent gameplay control. sure they could introduce new powers, but then that would piss off all those hardcore fans that this game is ultimately aimed at. and finally, they have to think of mass appeal. spiderman is honestly the most successful marvel superhero to be accepted by the non-comic book world public. they ca't expect to succeed on hardcore fans buying this game alone. mass appeal is a legitimate reason for having spiderman as the central character.

@lumberjackrock

SpiderMan was infected pretty damn fast in the comic books, page 21 of the MZ V.S. Army of Darkness.....he'd be one of my last choices.

Ash V.S MZ would be the best choice!

The ball can roll either way with this game, but I hope it's going to fun in the least.
