Rumortoid: Sony unveiling motion-sensing controller soon photo

Another day, another rumor that Nintendo's rivals will be copying the motion-controller of the Wii. Despite the fact that simply copying Nintendo's controller won't guarantee the same success as Nintendo's heavily marketed system and cornered demographic, it seems almost inevitable that Sony and Microsoft will still try. The latest rumor suggests that Sony could make its move at E3.

According to reports, the controller uses "small LEDs" and a "small webcam" to track player movement, which makes it sound somewhat like the PlayStation's EyeToy. However, the controller can recognize "different color lights and the shape and angle of each light," making it more accurate than Sony's previous camera-based control methods. The idea stems from a patent Sony filed in 2007, and apparently a select team is working on making it a reality.

Sony has called this rumor a rumor, confirming that it is, indeed a rumor!

I have no excitement for motion controls in games. The Wii's form of input is nowhere near as satisfying as a traditional controller, and ironically it doesn't feel as interactive or engaging at all. It'll be a sad day when Sony and Microsoft decide to rip off Nintendo's alienating control input in a cynical and misguided attempt to appeal to this mystical "casual" demographic.

If these people haven't worked out by now that it's more than just a case of copying the hardware, they clearly have forgotten how well the Zune did against the iPod. Idiots.

1st point- Looks like I am somewhat on the way to being right. It may not involve gloves or a headset(yet), but damnit, I was right about the cameras and motion stuff.

2nd point- The Zune is superior to the iPod in every way. It wasn't marketed as well though, which is why it failed to sell as well.

What David Boring said. Screw the wannabe Wii crap, just give us a new and amazing Bushido Blade. One with amazing physics and ragdoll.

Yes, ragdoll.

We call knew this we comming. Sony shouldnt bother with motion control shit until they release another console. IMO. But motion control is hot now, so being a big corporation it would be stupid to not want to cash in on it.

Leave my motion sensing casual gaming for my Wii please. If I wanted a PS3 with motion sensing capabilities I would just duct tape 40 Wiis together.

I hope that they don't. I like the diversity of games this gen. Otherwise all the game consoles will be pretty much identical again -_-

I've been saying it for months, if Nintendo had released Wii as an add-on to PS3 I'd probably play it every day. Or at least a few times a week instead of turning it on a couple times a year to play something like Dokapon kingdom when I have some people around. Not that I'd buy this shit since it wouldn't get proper support, but I like the idea.

WhiteX: I don't hate the Wii. It's just not a system I have any real interest in whatsoever. Nothing it does appeals to me as a gamer, and while I recognize others enjoy it, I don't. I don't want the Xbox and PS3 to just become another Wii, because then where's the variety? I personally find the Wii vapid and unappealing, that's all.

As for Nintendo, I just hate NoA, because they're patronizing and clueless.

Hope that answered your queries.

Bushido Blade 3 would be awesome! I loved the original Bushido Blade, it was the ONLY realistic melee fighting sword game I actually liked. The second Bushido Blade however SUCKED.

Indeed it does.

NoA is clueless alright however as a sole Wii owner, i find a lot of enjoyment out of it, i was afraid you were just another of those graphic whores who call themselves "core" gamers.

BB's first person view would be perfect for motion controls. The traditional third person camera it defaulted to though might be confusing. Trying to translate players motions to a character who has a different rotational axis on screen is confusing and dumb.

Are you legally obliged to hire one particular artist to put a drawing in a patent schematic? They all look they've been drawn by the same exact guy.
