Rumortoid: Skies of Arcadia 2 at TGS? On PS3? photo

Either these rumors are a successful attempt to toy with my emotions, or they're really true.

We started hearing that a sequel to the airship and pirate Dreamcast RPG Skies of Arcadia since late last year. Since then, we've heard a few more hints of its existence, but now Cubed3 drops a full rumor load on us. They hear that we may see Skies of Arcadia 2 debut as early as this year's Tokyo Game Show. And while we've already heard that the Wii was the target platform, now they're saying that this game could hit the PS3 as well. Of course, none of this is confirmed.

Isn't is a bit wierd that this would be released on both the Wii and the PS3? I mean, that would be great, but that definitely isn't typical.

Did you play the first Skies? Are you patiently awaiting a sequel?

I own Skies on my Dreamcast, but I hardly played it, thanks to my DC not reading the discs. Mind you, when the DC ever DID read the game, it was awesome. Sweet battles, bosses were cool, beautiful world map. *sigh*

Yeah, I'll definitely be interested in seeing a sequel.

I never played the first SoA, but I'll probably give it a try when I get a bigger GameCube memory card.

As for PS3/Wii, as long as Wii doesn't keep getting screwed by third-parties I don't care. And I'll weep if all the niche RPGs (including Atlus) go to PS3 'cause aside from potential exclusives from franchises I like there's absolutely nothing I want from PS3, nor do I want to get it.

I just played through the first SoA again, and I'd love to see a sequel.

I loved the 1st game(And I really should replay it). So I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel. As long as the encounter rate isn't as high as the 1st game.

I think it will happen but not that early. 1up asked the director of Valkyria Chronicles (who was the director of Skies) about it and he said he'd love to make a sequel but it didn't sound like it was in the works. who knows though.

Somebody call Sega up and tell them that if they make this happen they can ALMOST be forgiven for the crap in a case they released on PS3/360 labeled as Sonic the Hedgehog.

I loved Skies. I had 3 complaints with the game. All minor.

1) The random encounter rate was too high!
2) Too many small enemies would cast insta-death every round.
3) Magic was completely ineffective by the 2nd half of the game.

I definitely want more! I was so excited when I heard about Vyse/Aika's cameo. Now this would be even better!

OMG I want this so hard. Skies was my favorite traditional RPG of the last gen, so Skies 2 stands to possibly be one of my favorites of the current gen. Honestly though, I hope it ends up on the PS3, just so Sega can do more with it.

If Sega doesn't fuck this and Sonic up, they'll finally be a company worth looking forward to again.

I have the Gamecube version (I chose Grandia II over this on DC...and cuz I couldn't find SoA when I wanted it.) and I really was looking for Tales of Symphonia when I picked this up. But no one had it and thought of getting it.

I haven't gotten that far but the encounter rate is rather high. Just on the ship alone. But i'm sure it's still a good game. A sequal would be awesome.

good god i love this game...

i remember following its release for the DC even back then... i was a subscriber to dreamcast magazine at the time (lolz) and every issue came with a demo disc. would you believe it, the issue that would have had a skies of arcadia demo was the only one that somebody actually stole the demo out of the magazine package?

still this game is fucking sweet, i tried to get it for my GC but the disk is a little beat up... froze at shrine island and deleted my game and i haven't been able to go back since

Skies was easily one of the most creative and innovative and fun RPGs that I can remember having played.

A sequel would be an amazing gift from the heavens.

Skies was decent but I never ended up finishing it. Sega really needs to make Phantasy Star V already and quit with the PS Online garbage. Universe was just awful.

Ah, about bloody time!
It's been around 4 years since I've had any sky pirate related goodness, so this is definetly good news. To be honest though, a 360 port would be great. I mean, if you're doing the Wii and PS3, why not just go full multi-format?

I tried SoA, and wanted to like it, but got turned off because of the intense random battles. The battle system didn't help much either, since it all boiled down to entering attacks and waiting 30 seconds while the attacks happened; I would've rather had it be a bit more active. I can see how some people can love it, though, and definitely look forward to a sequel.

Sega are the only game only company I've seen NOT cash in on there GOOD ip's. This is quite certainly one of there top games they've ever made.

Skies of Arcadia 2
Panzer Dragoon Saga 2
Shenmue 3
Burning Rangers 2

In fact quite alot of games from sega that only got 1 hit wonders or a not release across the borders on dreamcast like d2 need to be made to make sega a crap load of money but for some reason they are strangling a blue hedgehog to death while screaming' give us money!!' cause they squeezed every money making facite out of sonic to death when they made the sonic mario olympics game.

I can't get my hopes up for this game.
If I do, I'll state having those dreams about sequels to Shenmue and Panzer Dragoon, and worst of all, a proper Sonic game. I shudder to think what happens if any of them come to pass, as they would surely be the first signs of the end of days.

Sega's like a prizefighter that took one too many haymakers to the temples...he's still amazingly powerful, but they're a little slow and prone to repeating themselves almost unintelligibly. Poor guy, at least we'll always have memories of '99.

Skies pissed me off when I rented it because the main character held one of his swords by the handguard (I kept waiting for him to miss an attack and stab himself), and the girl hit people with her boomerang instead of throwing it. Maybe I should give it another chance though, since all of you seem to worship it.
