Rumortoid: Skate coming to Nintendo DS and Wii photo

Earlier today, IGN dropped the news that Electronic Arts will be bringing the Skate franchise to the Nintendo DS and Wii. Called Skate It!, the game will ... oh, wait! IGN weren't supoosed to tell the world about it just yet. Oops!

The article has since been yanked from the Web site, which can quite possibly mean that someone over at IGN was having a little fun and simply decided to make up some news. Or -- and this is more likely -- IGN leaked the news earlier than EA would have liked. See, that's what happens when you give IGN sensitive information. That kind of stuff never happens when you give exclusives to Destructoid ... hmph!

Since no official announcement has been made and there's no real way to confirm this, we'll treat this one as a rumor. In the meantime, everyone can fantasize about playing a skating title using the Wii Balance Board, and how awkward it could possibly be on the DS.

[Thanks, Andy!]

I remember reading a story a story how Miyamoto got a hands on with a few EA games a while back. While a majority of them were games that incorporated the Wii controls (NBA Live), he did get hands on with the 360 skate, and thought how it could be interesting in incorporating the Balance Board.

I guess EA was totally listening to his thoughts during the process.

I certainly hope it's implemented well. I haven't really had enough hands-on (or feet-on) with the Balance Board to say one way or another.

Oh shit, this could really be fun if they do it right. :D

Depending on how they are implemented, I could totally see myself falling over trying to do some of the more demanding challenges found in the game. (That 360 Flip to FS Crook challenge is more or less asking for you to watch your legs get tied into a knot).

Hahaha. Skate was awkward to me on the 360. So damn frustrating, yet very stimulating.I bet it will be pretty awkward on the DS. Anyone remember the Tony Hawk games on the Gameboy Color?
Oh wait, I thought those games were awesome...
...maybe it was the fact that any game can be amusing during class time. Even Elmo's Letter Adventure.

I would be interested to see skate on the DS because the controls are pretty much the same. Flick the stick or slash the bottom screen, pretty cool.

Apprently IGN also broke news that Pandemic is making a Batman game, which they also pulled.

Something tells me the Wii version will be gimped. Just a thought. Not like there's been a past history of that from EA or nothing.

Using the balance board in conjunction with motion sensing of the wiimote/nunchuck could theoretically be awesome... but most likely it'll be a mess.

Wii balance board skating game could be awesome! I know I would just end up breaking it while trying to do a kickflip though.

Could be interesting, but...probably nothing special.

Skate would be well suited to something akin to the Wii's controls...

Skate or Die? Skate, please. :O)

Old news. Skate for Wii was mentioned in their analyst meeting in February. You can find the relevant info here: http://media.corporate-ir.net/media_files/irol/88/88189/JohnRiccitiello.pdf
