Rumortoid: Six Days in Fallujah may not come to Europe photo

There's no denying that Konami's documentary-styled Six Days in Fallujah will be one of the most controversial titles of all time, regardless of how sensitively the content is treated. It would seem that the game is so hot, however, that the publisher may choose to skip Europe altogether and avoid the furor there.

The story goes that a European release all hinges upon how developer Atomic Games chooses to portray the action elements of the game. The suggestion seems to be that if the game is too violent, it won't come to Europe. As sad and annoying as that is, who can blame them after the Daily Mail jumped down the game's throat less than twenty-four hours after it was announced?

This Iraq-themed game is going to be an incredibly interesting release, as it pushes the boundaries of what a game is allowed to be by mainstream society. It will be a huge shame if Europe is made to miss out on that, all for the want of a bunch of whining crybabies who denounce anything as "tasteless glorification" just because it's in a videogame.

Honestly, I hope more publisher's just decide to skip out on countries or places within reason when it comes to censoring or pushing sensitive issues. I know it comes to the almighty dollar, but when I can see ten different fucking movies filled with propaganda bullshit from this war yet when it comes to games, nope. This medium needs some balls when it comes to sensitive issues, seriously, let us see some.

I like that it's only controversial if it's based on actual events. I was okay to blow up countless middle-eastern soldiers in Soldier of Fortune/Call of Duty:MW with little to no blowback.

Of course tasteless glorifcation is certianly an issue if the game awards '25 GS - 50 Fatal Headshots!'. I think they'll need to pick their achievements carefully.

ive just read all of the commments for that dailymail article, and ive seen a fairly one sided view from lots of people (including marines who served there) wanting this game to be released so we might know a little bit more of what the hell happened. i hopw this doesnt get banned from europe, as i want to know more about what happened there, as i think although not real games give you a better insight (although warped as a media output) into the actual environments and situations.
if it does get banned, i can see lots of people just importing it anyway. Also, people want things that get banned. if you ban it, people will just want to know more and play it more, by letting it be released people wont notice as much and it will then be down to the consumer to choose to buy it

If this does become true then I'm particularly glad that importing isnt much of a pain at all these days.

Now lets just pray this doesnt do a Manhunt 2 and turn out that nobody cares anyway.

Wait, what? Why would they skip Europe? Shouldn't they skip the United States? I mean the United States is the MOST affected by this. This doesn't make any sense.

Also, isn't the point of an "action" game supposed to have fun while killing people?

Come on Konami. If you are going to spend money to develop this game, you also need the mental strength to fight for it. Its fine for some to object, but they have a choice to not buy the game (and most of them probably aren't gamers anyway.

I really hope this isn't true, as I'd like to check it out and get tired of chasing 360 region free games. There's no reason this has to turn into a Manhunt 2 debacle, so long as Konami are smart and tuck their balls in.

Perhaps this is what Konami need, a baptism of fire. E3 and PAX are just around the corner, so there's a prime oppurtunity to show Six Days off, and dispell any fears and myths, if they have something playable by then.

Skip Europe? I'd find that a bit insulting, especially when U.K/EU troops are out there too. Being excluded, is worse than being included. I'm sure if they were to do that, it will also play into the hands of game pirates.

"I'm sure if they were to do that, it will also play into the hands of game pirates."

I for one will pay and play. Or just play, if I won't be able to buy it in EU.

BTW
This step had to be taken at some point on the way games have to go to get to the level, which older types of art enjoy.
You already have Americas Army for some time - and its a game about fictional conflicts, but one that promotes enlisting and fighting in real war. One in which violence is not "portrayed" it just is.

Unfortunately censors may have thier way here. Considering how vicious is the opposition to games in mainstream media, I would not be suprisied if they actually caved in and leave EU to *ekhem* other means of distribution.

I think the only reason we're seeing so much backlash is because the war is still going on. To me that isn't a compelling enough reason to ban the game, especially when Atomic is working so closely with the soldiers involved in the conflict who want their story heard.

If this was being released as a made for TV movie on the history channel nobody would care, hell it would probably win awards. Until the general public wise up and realize that games can be an effective story telling medium, just as much as books or movies, we're gonna get nonsense like games being banned for trying to be more serious.

Fucking Bull-Shit!

Keep on watching those war movies guys nothing wrong with that huh?
Shooting Germans, Japanese guys, Russians etc is all good but when it comes to this it's controversy all over the place.
I for one will import the shit out of that game. Because I like war? No. Because I hate Muslims? No. Because I'm interested in the whole situation there and I love a good game. I'd rather play a good game that tells me all about it then to watch the fucking news.

Bunch of whiny sensitive bitches.

Interesting concept that could be really cool if done tastefully.

All of this will be moot if the game sucks.

Because a First Person Shooter is the perfect medium to learn something about a war right?
