Rumortoid: Samba De Amigo maracas unveiled? photo

We have never been quite sure that Gearbox's upcoming Wii title Samba De Amigo would include maracas like the Dreamcast version did. After all, the Wii Remote's flexibility can definitely provide what Samba needs. Recently, though, a picture of the game's box art has surfaced. As you can see, it proudly presents a maraca attachment for the Wii Remote. Kombo found the image in question at HMV's website. While we would love to say "maraca confirmed," the disclaimer on the picture clearly states that the art is not final.

We know all this seems obvious. It almost goes without saying that a rhythm game as intense as Samba appears to be, without some kind of musical peripheral, would be sorely lacking in the fun department. Think of it this way. Would Donkey Kong Konga be cool without a set of overpriced bongo drums? I would venture to guess that without the drums, the game would have been reduced to smashing the GameCube controllers on the floor in a frantic attempt to feel the beat.

I contacted Gearbox to confirm that the attachment is going to be in the final packaging. In the meanwhile, check out these screens of the game we posted awhile back. What do you think the chances are that this game will give you a seizure?

[Thanks, Dustin!]

Yeah I spotted this the other day as well but the store is HMV and it's not just an online store, they have loads of shops on the high street

It's priced at £34.99 and at that price it looks like the maracas are being bundled together with the game the same way the wii wheel is bundled with Mario Kart. Shame they aren't stand alone maraca controllers like the Dreamcast ones but still, cannot wait!!

This is one Wii game that demands ridiculous peripherals. I would be extremely upset if they didn't include something like this. I just hope they attach well enough to the wiimotes so we don't get any more stories about people smashing their tvs.

Wish I could find my Dreamcast Maracas. Didn't know SEGA was resurrecting this game.

this looks amazing. Seriously, with SCIV and Samba, my summer is set. And I haven't even bought GTAIV yet!

Oh, and for anybody who cares, in Sega Superstars Tennis, the song Samba de Janiero is a song you can play on the courts. It is the best song in the history of the universe times infinity. With sprinkles and a cherry on top.

Looks ok i guess, I was really hoping for separate maracas, with attachments I always get the felling they'll fall off.

Looks like I'm out. I only own one Wiimote. No Samba fun for me.

Look kids! It's another completely useful peripheral.

Now counting the Wii Zapper, Sports Attachments, the Wii Fit board, the Guitar Hero & rock band instruments, The mario Kart Wheel; have we reached the levels of stupidity that the GC and PS2 had with all their stuff (Buzzers and Bongos, indeed!).

Don't you long for the days when the Wiimote and Nunchuck was meant to be all you required? You could mimic any action. In fact that was their charm, you got to use your bloody imagination.
