Rumortoid: Rock Band may never hit Australia photo

Australian gamers don't have it easy. With a pathetic government approach to game ratings, constantly gimped products and insulting prices, it's little wonder that importing is a hot commodity in the land of the rising koala bear. Their woes could very well be further compacted if this new rumortoid is true: Rock Band may face an indefinite delay. I mean ... another one.

IGN reports:

Word is that retail buyers simply aren't interested in stocking a bulky product that's a year old and will cost more than its similarly bulky – and up to date - competitor Guitar Hero: World Tour.

This is dire news if true, yet that's not the worst of it. Further rumours suggest that - for similar reasons - Rock Band 2 may not come out either, and that the Guitar Hero series has the market sewn up. Whether EA would simply cede control of such a lucrative genre to a competitor remains to be seen, however, and we're hoping that it will still push to release the second game in Australia.

That's absolutely brutal for our long-suffering Australian gamers. However, I can actually see some long-term good come from situations like this. After all, the less games going into Australia, the less money Australia can make. Like them or not, videogames are great for the economy and Australia's stubborn and ignorant methods of dealing with them could get a kick up the backside should games simply stop coming into the country. After all, why should retailers and their customers have to put up with this kind of garbage, both from the Aussie government and from Electronic Arts?

It's about time Australia took a stand, but it looks like there'll be some heavy losses along the way.

Looks like the chances of me playing songs from Doolittle on a music game are out the window. Fuck! Being an irredeemable pessimist, I'd like to suggest a bleaker outcome: one where companies no longer release some games in countries like Australia simply because it's not worth their while. EA and Harmonix must be making shitloads off Rock Band DLC, so why bother releasing the game overseas, when domestic sales are excellent?

I hope this doesn't happen, but my gut feeling says otherwise. (Either that or it's the meatball sub I just ate)

yeah i'm not fucking surprised. we're the backwash of other nations fads down here. vidya games aren't as harshly criticized in the media but soon it will be. no R rating for our gamers either. I find it so fucking ridiclous that they think Rock Band won't sell just because Guitar hero sales are dominant. I'm sick of fucking guitar, I wanna break in the drums. Well, at least with World Tour and it's custom song creation, i can still get the songs from rock band onto GH. unless they decide not to ship drums. and the custom feature isn't as good as that. which i'm guessing for australia, it will happen.

Sorry guys, this news fucking blows.

Still though try to look forward to the new GH! The custom track-making should be amazing and it seems to have taken alot of the best features on Rock Band.

If this turns out to be true, then I wonder how it's going to affect the Guitar Hero: World Tour pricing. With Rockband out of the way, d'you think that Activision will ramp up the price, considering that they have no competition in the genre in Australia. I mean if you want a music/rhythm game here, it's Guitar Hero. No websites I've visited have a confirmed Australian release date.

I for one am glad that Rock Band was refused classification. It's bad enough we have to endure The Veronica's let alone the inevitable surge of drumstick-in-eye and guitar-over-head violence that this kind of game promotes.

This sickens me.

Could be worse: we could have Jet doing their best impersonation/rip off of the Rolling Stones circa 1971 on the game.

Considering we can import Rock Band for cheaper than what it was going to sell retail here anyway (including freight of the box) it's no big loss. I was waiting for Rock Band 2 to import some drums anyway.

A travesty, I tell you. Australia hasn't had it this bad, since Men at Work stopped touring. Rise up as a people, and demand your right to rock!

Well, now that Wii owners are supposed to get equal treatment with Rock Band 2, EA had to find another audience to completely screw over instead.

Anger building.

I tried ordering this from Play Asia- they are out of stock and have been for the last year. I then tried ordering it from Amazon, but they won't ship this particular item overseas.

Does anyone know where I could actually order this from?

So angry.

Australians shouldn't be playing video games anyway. They should be too busy keeping a careful watch for all the things that can kill you there.

I am very happy to hear this. I know for a fact that Game WILL be supplying Rock Band, although it has been delayed yet again.

I don't understand how any Australian would want Rock Band after Activision shafted us for almost an entire year, are selling the game at a far higher price than you can get it for if you were in the UK or US.

Why support someone who doesn't support you? Say someone has just taken a dump in front of you and then thrown it at you in the street. Would you then give this stranger 100 bucks from your wallet? No. You wouldn't.

Game is known for promising things and not delivering
"The system says this so it must be true"
Game needs to learn, never promise anything to a customer unless it is completely under your control!

I know because I know the South Australia managers and a few full-time staff that work there (one is my house mate as well) and the big guys are saying that they are definitely getting it, it has just been delayed another month. Should be here in October, early October from recollection

Hopefully the GH:WT controllers will be compatible with Rock Band 1&2. That way you could buy World Tour and import the Rock Band games. Still would be screwed for DLC though.

And I know that there is a possibility thats not true because I worked as a manager of EB for 4 years and worked at Games Wizards prior to that
Anyone who has worked in the gaming industry in Australia long enough knows that no matter how "definate" something is, there is a possibility it will change.
There have been MANY cases of mistaken releases etc. because staff misunderstand how things work here.
I'm not saying it wont be released all I'm saying is just because GAME says it will be, can't be relied on. After all they're not the distributer of the game, just the stockist.
Sorry to burst your bubble but I only speak the truth

Ah okay, fair enough. I don't work with games so I don't know these things myself until I am told by people who work with games.

At any rate, for all of the people huffing and puffing over this rumor, just remember: It's a rumor, not confirmed.
