Rumortoid: Resident Evil 2 shambling to the Wii photo

Apparently, the latest issue of Famitsu will reveal that a remake Resident Evil 2 is making its way to the Wii. The remake is said to incorporate a Resident Evil 4 camera view, “swordsman” enemies, and new plot elements. Despite Famitsu’s spectacular record of being accurate, the printing of this rumor has yet to be confirmed.

The information comes from a popular gaming message board in Japan, 2ch, where a poster claims to have the latest Famitsu. N-Europe is carrying his details about the camera, enemies, and story elements are said to arise from the issue. Joystiq is reporting that Christian Svensson, VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development at Capcom, has said that this rumor “isn’t worth a comment.” I suppose that means it's ridiculous, right?

Of course, Nintendo is no stranger to Resident Evil remakes. Resident Evil 4 came to the Wii in excellent shape, and the GameCube allowed the series to revive itself and thrive across the globe. The only problem is this rumor is not exactly on stable ground. I can post all sorts of crazy stuff on the Internet like the guy at 2ch.

Super Mario Galaxy for the Xbox 720, confirmed.

If they truly incorporate the RE4 camera I will buy this.

My favorite game of all time. Not sure how they could take a fixed camera angle game like this and use the RE4 camera without redoing everything. If they can pull it off, I'd buy it for sure.

Guess that is why it's called a "remake."

Lol @ the caption for the picture. It's funny but so sad because it's true. Doesn't matter though, if they do this remake I will be getting it.

Oh Capcom, why must you whore the great RE franchise into oblivion?

The only true RE remake I will be actually giddy over, will be of Resident Evil Nemesis.

Capcom overhauled Resident Evil 1 for Gamecube. It was an amazing remake. RE2, 3, and Code Veronica for Gamecube were just ports though, nothing was changed besides maybe slightly smoother graphics.

@Gameeboi, it will be interesting to see what they do with a RE4 style camera, especially with most of the game taking place in tight corridors. As long as they don't make the game more open plan and try to keep the clostrophobic feeling of the original then I'm all for it.

* My problema withe Resident Evil 4 Wii is the quality of image in LCDs. Very pixeled. And I wish that the camera moves along movement of the target.

I'd love to play RE2 with RE4 controls. My biggest complaints about the early RE games are that the controls are pretty crappy. Yay steering a person like a tank.

Ooo. I just finished Code: Veronica, and any new RE remakes make me a little giddy. But, come on, remaking RE: 2 BEFORE RE:3? Rat bastards.

I'd love this, but the RE4 style is more suited for all out action, which wasn't really what RE2 was about. If they could find a happy medium I'd be all over it.

I lol'd at the caption. Moreso than the fact Capcom continues to rape their franchises to death. Sadly.

Well, if they can overhaul it as much as they did in the Resident Evil 1 remake, I'm cool with it. RE2 was in my opinion the best RE game, and unless they truly plan on adding onto and improving it, it's not worth it.

@Spooky

It's true. If they pull a Zero and just port it to the Wii like they're doing in Japan, then it won't be worth picking up. If they make it actual GameCube/Wii graphics unlike the picture with the caption, *cough*, then it'll definitely be worthwhile. 2 was the scariest one, in my opinion.

Anybody who complains about the tank-like movement in previous games has never looked at the control scheme for RE4. It's actually exactly the same, save for aiming and the knife.

@Irvine_frost they did re-released them in the gamecube, although only the 1st got the graphical treatment. and there was zero, which had graphics as good as the 1st remake.
That's why I'm going to buy this thing if it turns real. Ooh, yes.

I see this as a good thing. Unfortunately, the sensationalist caption in the picture made this blog post a lot less interesting than it could have been; sometimes it doesn't pay to try to be funny.

RE2 was a good one. I don't want to see a remake. I am afraid what Capcom will do to it. They will probably replace all the Zombies with angry bums in the streets of Raccon city that are infected with Los Plagus or whatever that stupid T-virus sub plot is called these days
