Rumortoid: Punch-Out!! for the Wii at E3 photo

British magazine NGamer is reporting that a new rendition of the epic Punch-Out!! series could possibly be shown at E3 this year for the Wii. The rumored rehash is to incorporate Balance Board support, as well as a play style similar Wii Sports Boxing. Unlike Wii Sports Boxing, this title could possibly be fun. Not to mention it could carry the exciting risk of falling off a Balance Board in the middle of a match.

The information comes from a “secretive source” which could mean a bum on the street, a banana, or even Reggie. I would hazard a guess and say that this probably isn’t too far from true, as our own Tron Knotts utilized his Psycho Mantis powers predicting this title a few weeks ago. It is also important to note that Punch-Out!! was previously rekindled on the SNES. The stretch of bringing it back on an even more successful platform doesn’t seem too wide.

I attempted to reach Glass Joe for comment on the story, but his wife told me that his face was to swollen to talk at the moment, and to call again next week. I did get a chance to talk to King Hippo last night. When I asked about the possibility he would return this generation he said:

Bark. Bark. Bark. Bark-bark-bark-bark.

We will definitely tell you the second we glimpse this supposed title at E3.

Luigi how is Punch Out a racist game? You're probably just looking too deep into it as I can't see any racism in it at all.

Comedic stereotypical video game characters make not a racist game.

It will definitely be interesting to see how the revamp the graphics/gameplay for the Wii. I'm taking a wild guess and saying that this is the "game for the hardcore" that Reggie was talking about.

Racism is racist.

I hated the controls for Wii Sport Boxing. Just a bit too much guessing for my tastes.

...Punch Out!!?

...*wets self*

I was looking forward to EA's Facebreaker to get my fix on over-the-top characters in the ring, but with this news I can easily look passed it.

Hopefully it's able to compete with it and the like of Ready 2 Rumble (which has aged horribly to meet after trying my hands at it again).

Using the balance board to dodge seems like a pretty cool idea, but would require a bit of coordination. I'd probably get too excited acting out the super uppercut, fall off, and break my damn ankle.

This is fine and all, but this along with rumors of a Kid Icarus remake is starting to make me think that Nintendo doesn't have the creative genius to come up with new ideas anymore.

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out remains in my list of top 5 games to this very day. It was kind of the spiritual ancestor of Shadow of the Colossus in a way, as it was a game made up entirely of Boss Battles. I'm going to reserve my judgement as to whether the franchise needs to be brought back, as I'm skeptical that such a game could be made well in this day and age (especially with lackluster motion controls thrown in). Regardless, the original will still stand, n matter how good or bad a new one will be. So, Nintendo, do your best/worst!

I will buy this day one without even reading any further information about it from here on out. This is how big of a fan I am of this game. I would actually buy it twice just because.

Wow, really? I mean, setting aside the fact that Nintendo aint the only developer out there that milks its hit franchises, they do develop original stuff too man. To say otherwise is sort of ignorant.

Now of greater concern is whether or not the series will translate well into 3-D. I'm not sure how it can retain the gameplay feel of the previous games. Then again, I have no imagination, so what the shit do I know?

Wouldn't it be wonderful if they just made a game like the new Wario game or Mega Man 9, meaning old school graphics?

OMFG! I need a change of pants. I lost control of my bowels at the mere thought of a new Punch-Out!!!

Punch-Out is one of my favorite games of all time. It is also my Moby Dick of gaming. I still haven't beaten it. Never could figure out how to get past Mike Tyson. I still try occasionally, decades later, but no luck.

Also, I demand that Little Mac still wears his hot pink tracksuit when he trains!

Oh, and I want Super Punch-Out on VC.

It astounds me that they haven't announced this yet. Now Nintendo needs to get off their asses and work with Camelot to make fully-featured versions of Mario Tennis and Mario Golf (even if I only care about the former) so the only decent options for those type of games aren't free tech demos.
