Rumortoid: Possible first pics of Natal 'in the wild' photo

Look! Real dimly lit pictures of the Microsoft Natal unit...or a prototype of the final unit. These were passed along from Italian site Multiplayer. They say that says these images came from a tester who was hired to test the unit's speech recognition. In the shots you'll see the alleged device and what appears to be an instruction manual and a quick start guide.

I see that in the guide that Natal requires wall power. Don't love that, but what can you do? Also, the guide says something about a tilt mechanism:

The sensor array includes a new motorized tilt mechanism. Do not manually tilt the sensor array on its base. Doing so can damage the tilt mechanism.

Hmm, what's that all about? There's also cute little return instructions. I wonder if the included instructions ever mentioned leaking images or anything.

In the speech test, commands like "turn on the Xbox 360" and "go to Facebook" were mentioned. These went with hundreds of others. Fun.

While these images look legit, I'd still keep this filed under rumor. Check out our gallery for more images.

So I'm supposed to believe someone just "accidently" left this at a bar?

And Destructoid just 'accidentally' found it there and took it back to the office?

While it totally could be legit I will just note Multiplayer is notorious for "leaking" prototypes that end up being fakes. They're basically attention whores.

Also:

"Doing so can damage the tilt mechanism."

I know Dale, I know. But it's irresistible.

@Cordoroy

OH U

I'd rather just say "360 on", but that's me being a picky gamer durrrrr.

I wonder how much time they actually spent with the speech thing. I predict it's gonna be used on a default level for games, but....meh.

As long as I can remove the stand and just sit the rectangular unit directly on top of the TV. And then I guess stack the Wii sensor on top of that...

FAKE, the marketing material is not real. XBOX uses white not black as the main color. Plus the perforations along the edge are a dead give away. This was made at radio shack or fry's electronics.

I bet in the original natal box there's some sticky tape so you could stick that ugly shit on top of your flat tv panel.

Voice comands would be intresting. As I understand it MS's. Sync works very well.

That said there's a Windows menu at the bottom of the screen so I call shenanigans here.

i can't say that particular one is legit, but it looks just like the one my development company has, except ours is white. and that instruction brochure is exactly what we have. the motorized tilt warning is there because the first dev model we had wasn't motorized and you were able to move it freely by hand, like a webcam. now it's controlled via software.
can't say if that's what the rtm will look like, but that's how it looks to developers.

I'm thinking its like some newer camcorders and webcams that have the headtracking motor and software. Also, Natal = hands free pron video playback...giggity.

My main gripe with the natal is this...

playing by myself would be easy enough, and playing with another person could be fun... but suppose your like me, and you've got friends that come over and take turns or watch you play games. hell, my girlfriend is usually sitting behind me on the bed with her laptop doing god knows what?

won't having someone else in the camera's view that isn't participating fuck with the camera? say we're all "chilling" like the attractive young people in the tony hawk:ride commercials, what then? do we all stand up and skate together? how will the Natal not confuse friends passing a bong around with the movements I'm using to punch a small child in Fable 3?

I suppose the controller still being a part of the equation in some games would nullify this in theory, but I'm still conflicted nonetheless.

Natal has a mechanism that knows who is who and will ignore different profiles that might be just passing through. There is a video somewhere on youtube of them showing this off...though im too lazy to find it
