Rumortoid: Pokemon Gold/Silver remake coming photo

I am reliably informed that this is a big deal to Pokémon fans. While Pokémon Gold/Silver was one of the few main Pokémon games I never actually owned, it is said by some to be the greatest of the series by far. It's understandable then, that Pokéfans are quite thrilled by a rumor claiming that a remake of these games are on the way.

According to reports, some new games are due to be announced on the Japanese Pokémon Variety Show, and it is here that hopeful fans believe they'll see the remakes confirmed, a belief spurred on by the fact that new merchandise featuring the Johto Region starter Pokémon is being manufactured. Also, since Red, Blue and Green all got their remakes, it stands to reason that Silver and Gold would have gotten their turn sooner or later.

I stopped playing Pokémon when the breeding stuff got too complex and convoluted, but I may be tempted to give these re-releases a go since it's the one iteration I skipped. What about you lot?

I'll kill my entire family for this game.

Feel free to quote me on that Sterling/Media.

For Me they they were my favorite games in the series, mostly because they had more than one region. I hope they keep that in the remake.

I wouldn't call myself reliable ;)

Also, just found this on Serebii, it's a preview picture for next week's "announcement show"

Hopes are raised!

Owned both Gold and Silver, and yes, they were both damned good games.

Also Jim, I'm not sure whether to recommend them to you or not. On one hand they have a great story, two full regions, a cool cellphone system and great music. On the other hand they have girafrig, and we all know how you feel about him ;)

Can't wait! They were the only two I haven't played, so it should be interesting. I really hope they keep the Kanto region in it, there really isn't a reason for them not to. It's not like they're making money off of Fire Red and Leaf Green anyway... Yay Pokemon!

Pokemon Glittering Gold/Shiny Silver? Yes please! The original Pokemon Gold ranks as my 7th favourite game of all time!

Knowing what they did with FireRed/LeafGreen, they'll probably add more small areas to travel to ala the Sevii Islands and crap.

And what's wrong with Girafarig?! I like my two-headed pony-giraffe-Chain Chomp!

GSC is also notable for being the only generation to introduce new elements (Dark and Steel) into the mix, but it was before all that Nature and Ability bullshit they threw in during the third gen. It also split the Special stat into Special Attack and Special Defense, altering the viability of certain 'mons in battle.

My team was Typhlosion, Skarmory, Umbreon, Espeon, Quagsire, and...to be honest, I never do remember who #6 was, in any game. >_>;

Gold/Silver was the best generation in the Pokemon series. Day/night, real-time clock, compatibility with the games that came before it, and, unlike what we have now, there wasn't a supposed "legendary" for every 10 steps you took.

As much as I want to be excited about this, I really can't be. I've pretty much filled the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum Pokedex, including all the Johto Pokemon. So tell me, Nintendo, what would a DS remake of G/S have to offer a guy like me?

I hope the answer is "50-100 all new Pokemon, you 32 year-old, Pokemon loving weirdo".

I am very excited to see if this rumor is true. =D The music from the G/S/C games is really good (look up g/s/c credits theme for a fine example) In firered/leafgreen they teased me by putting revamped versions of some of the g/s/c town themes as the music for the sevii islands. I hope the rumor is truueee

I'll buy it, especially if they add Wi-Fi. I'd like to see random online battling too, instead of only being able to battle your friends which is completely stupid.

Also, I hope that there's a collector's edition Totodile stylus that Jim can review.

I'm not a fan of the DS pokemon game's style. I'd rather have it be a GBA remake ala Leafgreen or Firered. But that'll never happen.

Still waiting for a fully fleshed out console Pokemon game. Maybe this is the year?

I loved Fire Red, but I never finished Ruby, and never got any of the DS games (really considering Platinum, though, when I get money). That being said, I love me some old-school Pokémon, so a revamped Gold would be a must-buy for me. Totodile, here I come!

Pokemon was ruined once they decided to introduce natures and ev/iv's and all that other assorted garbage, seriously, competitive gaming has invaded Pokemon, I think its time for competitive gaming to die.

That and the fact that even if you don't care you could gimp yourself by not knowing about the natures, imagine an Abra with nature designed for an attacker, its totally useless on someone like him but it can happen if you don't know.

That said I never played the G/S era so I'll be all over this.

@Gatorsax I think you should totally get Platinum, it's the best Pokemon game period, imo. Then again, I haven't beat it or anything just yet since I'm still looking for my DS charger but ya know.. It'll keep you occupied, that's for sure. So much stuff to do.

@Kyousuke Nanbu I don't agree that it's "killed" the Pokemon series but I do agree that it's getting old trying to evolve your Pokemon to be the perfect fighter. Breeding and dealing with Natures and EVs and what not gets tiring.

Are people still trying to have fun pitting their favorite cute fuzzy whatever creatures against another creature? Cause when I used to play, I don't see cute pokemons you love and know. All I see are a jumble of stats and numbers, and I make my pokemons kill each other in a bid to see which pokemon combination is the best to defeat EVERYBODY.

I've heard/would love some special DSi functionality in this. I would break down and get a DSi if that were the case.

Also, was I the only person with the Gameboy printer who printed pokemon stickers with it? That was such a neat feature.

Sounds cool.

Gold and Silver were the best ones, albeit the Pokemon weren't as good as Gen 1.
I can't get into Platinum, the Pokemanz suck, But Gold had cool stuff like Totodiles evolutions and Xatu, I'd play a remake of those 2 for sure.

OMIGOSH.

Even though I'd never been extensive into G/S/C (well, no C at all!), it's definitely the presentationally strongest to me. Not too derived from the originals, and even connected to 'em. Heck, it's prolly because of the relative restrictions of the GBC that it could keep that feel, rather than getting cartoon'd graphics in GBA and NDS, along with that horrible sound "upgrade". Ah, this'd be a prime post-DSi reason to keep the GBA-slotted DS Lite around (unless they unveil a GBA'd DSi, which would be tops).

Last time I had a look at playing this it was an english translation of the japanese cart before it had been officially translated. Got sick of that pretty quick, but I might go back for it if they do a good remake.

FINALLY! These were the games that REALLY got me into the series. I was so stoked to play two regions, double the gyms, and a story that was remotely relevant. I'll get this. My only real problem with this series are the regions and number of legendaries. Seriously, 35 pokemon are considered legendary, not including some that are pseudo-legendary,which is too much man.

Fuck yes, pokemon crystal is the best one so far. I hope it is just as hard to find shiny pokemon as it was in gsc, instead of how it is in d/p/p

i still remember when i first got pokemon silver. I had completed the game on one of my friends gameboys, and then for my birthday i got a gba along with pokemon silver. I started out with totodile (even though cyndaquil is my fav) and it was shiny. Words cannot express the awesome that i felt.

the 100 pokemon that were introduced in g/s/c are easily the best so far imo (closely followed by the original 151)
