If CVG's shadowy "development source" is correct, Sony's next firmware update will allow users to screen capture in-game images directly from their PlayStation 3.

There's no details on how this would work, but there could be a few options. By opening up the Xross Media Bar, it could theoretically be possible to select a "capture image" option; you could then save it to your console's hard drive or upload it to a central server for sharing). It's also possible that this feature would only be active for certain titles, a la PixelJunk Eden's YouTube video uploading integration.

Sony are obviously quiet on the new firmware, having just updated the firmware yesterday. Wait, that was yesterday, right? It seems like Sony updates their firmware as often as Microsoft drops their console's price. ZING!

Seriously, if this turns out to be true, I'll welcome this feature with open arms. My MySpace page doesn't have enough PS3 screen captures on it.

Snooozore......wait!

Actually, this isn't bad at all. You could make some pretty cool wallpaper with this.

That's a very cool feature, I'm jealous. I wish more games/consoles would implement this feature (kinda like Halo 3's replay theater and screenshot sharing).

I'd prefer to see the video capture feature rolled out.
Having some of the epic battles recorded during FNF would be fecking awesome. As long as it doesn't infronge on the main game playing. However, capturing a screen during a MP game would be difficult so the video capture would be useful
Also, what if we could do a screen capture of the captured video? - That way we shouldn't have any problems

I have no use for this, and I dont think many would.

Another gimmick.

I would much rather have other promises done than something like this.

This will be a cool feature that I will probably use occasionally. I would use the youtube feature a lot if I could use it in games like GTA etc.

No new features are bad features.

Totally unnecessary. I'm sure it'd be cool for one or two screen caps but come on, there is much better things they could include.

Not really that necessary, but a welcome addition. Its nice to have the option.

Wow i asked for this when the PS3 launched in the PS forums. I am suprized to see the split of people who want this bad or think its useless.

As a PC gamer i'm used to being able to take Screenshots of interesting moments and have had a few PS3 moments that should have been capped. Video capture would be cool too but the HDD would fill up real quick.

This is kind of odd... some games do this already? I know you can save screen captures in Flow.

Has anyone noticed that I still can't play music while I'm in a game? Fuck that

@Syn - what game are you playing, many of the new games support custom music. Even some old one's have been patched to allow your own music to be played in game.
