Baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby!
Oh, wait. I'm getting too excited. This isn't the most solid confirmation of Persona 5 existing. Actually, it's a report from a pachinko site, of all places. Still, you just know a new Persona is coming, and I've loved the last four so much that I can't contain my excitement for this minuscule bit of information.
The Japanese site 7rush said that Persona 5 would be released for the PlayStation 3. Apparently the news came out at a press conference for an upcoming Shin Megami Tensei pachinko machine (woo!), and it was said that Persona 5 would launch alongside the pachinko machine in a promotion. IGN says that this promotion is supposed to take place in Japan in August.
As there has been no announcement, we shouldn't start singing Persona 3 battle songs and getting excited just yet. I was already hopeful for a Tokyo Game Show announcement of the title in September, but perhaps we'll hear something as early as next month.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And as for the rumour... sounds highly implausible. Unless they've been making tons of extra money, I can't see that happening.
You never know. Persona 4's release news was broken as a tiny note in a bloomberg financial report.
I don't have the money for PS3 :(
But that would break the F key on my keyboard. So instead:
Bugger.
Atlus have to be brave and produce this for both PS3 and 360, though. Single format games don't make as much money these days. Spread the persona love. I wonder if Atlus would have the resources to do this though. Maybe not.
Currently, 360 is the only console that won't have a Persona game on it. It'd be a shame, to miss out on all those 360 dollars.
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG
Unlikely, but Xbox 360 please? I don't have extra cash for a ps3. :(
The Wii doesn't have any SMT games on it, either, not just the 360. SMT is really a Sony series with Atlus.
Then again, I suppose Atlus isn't used to having strong sales. Might as well get as much as you can from the new moneymaker.
Let's see the graphics take a jump, the battle grind toned down a bit, maybe introduce a female lead. We've done the moon and weather, maybe we can do something based more on holidays, or astrology, or other stuff outside the control of humans. Actually, something like the rise and fall of the stock market could open some new mechanics, especially in our recession. Maybe a focus on college students, or hell, over-worked office workers. There's actually a lot they can address. I also want it to stay in the realm of Japan, but maybe a new cultural experience, like the main be an exchange student or something.
Also, I want a return for suicides for attacks. I know it'll be cliched now, but I loved that element in P3. A time travel machanic could be cool, take place in a different era. 70's Japan would be neat.
I dunno, but there's just so much that they could do. I hope that whatever they make stands up to the previous two.
Nope, those are characters from Persona 4.

They did SMT Devil Survivor for DS. Hopefully we'll see more SMT on every system!
