Rumortoid: Persona 5 is headed to the PS3 photo

Baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby!

Oh, wait. I'm getting too excited. This isn't the most solid confirmation of Persona 5 existing. Actually, it's a report from a pachinko site, of all places. Still, you just know a new Persona is coming, and I've loved the last four so much that I can't contain my excitement for this minuscule bit of information.

The Japanese site 7rush said that Persona 5 would be released for the PlayStation 3. Apparently the news came out at a press conference for an upcoming Shin Megami Tensei pachinko machine (woo!), and it was said that Persona 5 would launch alongside the pachinko machine in a promotion. IGN says that this promotion is supposed to take place in Japan in August.

As there has been no announcement, we shouldn't start singing Persona 3 battle songs and getting excited just yet. I was already hopeful for a Tokyo Game Show announcement of the title in September, but perhaps we'll hear something as early as next month.

Anyone who's a fan of the series, do you think this game won't make any sense to someone who hasn't played the previous games?

The games are not particularly related, so it doesn't matter a lot if you played previous ones.

And as for the rumour... sounds highly implausible. Unless they've been making tons of extra money, I can't see that happening.

A pachinko site? That's one tasty grain of salt.

@Cuba and Celica -- I've only ever played P4, and it didn't seem to rely on any knowledge of the previous games. I'd assume that would hold true for P5.

Aboot time! There's some badass PS2 games that should have been made for the PS3, and it'll be great if Persona finally makes the jump.

@Volomon

You never know. Persona 4's release news was broken as a tiny note in a bloomberg financial report.

I wouldn't be surprised. I know Atlus has expressed some interest in bringing the SMT series to the PS3 before.

like discussed in the cblogs, a current gen persona would be awesome. Just let the PS2 die already.

I won't buy a PS3 because of three games (God of War 3 included). I've got 50 for my 360 and 20 for my PS2. I would be absolutely terrible for me if this a PS3 exlusive.

Great news, but will it sell enough? Valkyria was also awesome and few invested in it. I hope I'm wrong, as I want it to do well, as its one of the few jrpg series thinking outside the box.

Atlus have to be brave and produce this for both PS3 and 360, though. Single format games don't make as much money these days. Spread the persona love. I wonder if Atlus would have the resources to do this though. Maybe not.

Currently, 360 is the only console that won't have a Persona game on it. It'd be a shame, to miss out on all those 360 dollars.

The only thing that will annoy the hell out of me is that because it'd be on PS3, TONS of people would complain complain complain if they tried to stick to the series' traditional battles. And if they don't stick to the traditional battle system because it's a PS3 game, it'd just be turning into Front Mission Evolved and completely alienate the entire fanbase that wanted the game to begin with.

The Wii doesn't have any SMT games on it, either, not just the 360. SMT is really a Sony series with Atlus.

I'm pretty sure Atlus said they wanted to take a break from Persona.

Then again, I suppose Atlus isn't used to having strong sales. Might as well get as much as you can from the new moneymaker.

If I weren't already making vague plans to get a PS3 in the somewhat near but still nebulous future, this would probably do it. I can wait until rumor turns into fact one way or another, however.

If they improve P5 in the same fashion they modified P4 from P3, I would say it'll be a killer app. Which sucks for me, being poor and having just bought a 360. Curse you, Atlus!!

My one complaint is that the games are just too damn long. I can't beat them they take so much time, but they are so good, it's something I don't want to miss out on.

Let's see the graphics take a jump, the battle grind toned down a bit, maybe introduce a female lead. We've done the moon and weather, maybe we can do something based more on holidays, or astrology, or other stuff outside the control of humans. Actually, something like the rise and fall of the stock market could open some new mechanics, especially in our recession. Maybe a focus on college students, or hell, over-worked office workers. There's actually a lot they can address. I also want it to stay in the realm of Japan, but maybe a new cultural experience, like the main be an exchange student or something.

Also, I want a return for suicides for attacks. I know it'll be cliched now, but I loved that element in P3. A time travel machanic could be cool, take place in a different era. 70's Japan would be neat.

I dunno, but there's just so much that they could do. I hope that whatever they make stands up to the previous two.
