Rumortoid: Okami coming to the Wii

Rumortoid: Okami coming to the Wii photo

IGN isn't always right, but more than often they're a great place to read old gaming news. The big rumor that surfaced today involves an angry wolf and a Wiimote: Okami might be making its way to the Wii, perhaps buckling after months and months of gamers pleading for it on every public forum on the Internet.

... a reliable industry insider unaffiliated with Capcom told us that the company is seriously considering creating a Wii version and may even be working on it as we speak. However, when we asked Capcom UK for confirmation of Okami's move to Wii we got this response: "Officially we have no plans for Okami on Wii at this time. Research and development are always looking at possibilities but given Clover is now closed for business, I think it highly unlikely a Wii version would be possible."

So there you have it - officially it's not happening but it's by no means a flat-out denial. And even with the closure of Clover Studios it wouldn't be that difficult for a team to port it across, particularly when you consider a lot of Clover staffers are likely to head over to Capcom once the studio finally shuts its doors next month.

Okami is often compared to last-gen sequels of Zelda, so the Wii install base does seem to fit as the ideal platform-shopping audience. Considering the drought of non-casual games on the Wii, this could be a much welcomed port.

Let's open that up for discussion: Would you buy Okami for the Wii?

Never played Okami and I wouldn't mind picking it up for Wii instead of PS2...maybe throw in Progressive scan if it doesn't already support it.

As I did not have a chance to get to play Okami, I would gladly add it to my Wii library. You know, that brush thing would be a lot of fun with the Wiimote.

The Capcom rep pretty much said it wasn't. In fact, the statement "but given Clover is now closed for business, I think it highly unlikely a Wii version would be possible" pretty much nips this one in the ass.

I would like the play Okami in 480p though. I have no idea why the game didn't support progressive scan.

I've never even heard of Okami until Gametrailers.com nominated it for awards in virtually every category. Is it really that good?

I banged through the 30+ adventure on PS2...I don't think I could do it again anytime soon...a part of me is never coming back.

Campbell, yes it is that good as long as you ignore the serious zelda plagiarism. I'm serious though, it's fing good, and different enough it doesn't matter.

and please, people - how many wolves have to die? Help stop the slaughter. Kill furries instead

I've never played it also because I am in the UK and I'm not importing it, but I'd sure get it for the Wii

This would be a very good move for Capcom

I'd buy it so fast, you'd CRAP. Literally. You'd crap your pants in shock of my Wii Okami buying speed.

i'd buy it, only faster than deaddays. so i'd narrowly escape with clean drawers prior to his pants crapping excursion.

but yeah, hands down best adventure game on the ps2, i'd gladly play it again!

I think my heart just stopped. Seriously. And I wet myself a bit.

Would I buy Okami on the Wii? Hell fuck yes I would! Capcom would be foolish not to at the very least start seriously considering such a move.

Painting w/ analog sticks = Pain in the ass.
Painting w/ Wiimote = Pure, unadulterated awesome.

Hmm, looks like I will delay picking this up for the ps2 if their is a chance of a wii version, and with ff12 coming out next week, I doubt I will have time for any other games.

If they added some rad extras, then I might consider it. If it's just a straight port, then no. But ONLY because I already own it.

If they don't I might have to get a PS2. Although, GoW2 is making me want to get a PS2 anyway. Fat chance of a Sony title making it over to the Wii.

Seeing as I haven't bought it yet, and provided the Wii controls were tight enough, I'd easily buy the Wii version.

The only question for me is should I buy it when it's finally released on ps2 over here, or should I wait for the catastrophically unlikely, yet far prefferable wii port...

I'm tired of the ports as much as anyone else is on the Wii, but if there's one port I would buy, it would be Okami.

I nominate to call it "Furrocious".

If Capcom is sane in the slightest they will do this immediately. Girls and guys, everyone would play this game on a Wii.

I would much rather see Okami 2 on the Wii. I feel no need to buy a game twice when I can still play my first copy easily.

Meh, it's one of the reasons I still want a PS2, so if it came out on the Wii before I do that then maybe.

I'd buy Okami for the Wii, if it had more to offer than the PS2 version.
Oh and Niero, keep your Furry porn under your bed where you keep that Zip-loc bag you collect your semen and toe-nail clippings in, and off Destructoid. :P

@ esaks

Too bad if they make an Okami 2, it'll be made by Capcom's standard teams and likely have none of the special feeling the first had. Best to let it go down quietly then drag it out with painfully bad sequels.

The reason why you should consider buying Okami if it came out on Wii is that the controls would give you a different experience, or so I would hope.

The only reason i don't already own Okami is because I can't justify buying a PS2 to play one amazing looking game. I will buy it if it comes to Wii. Not only is it the prettiest looking game I've ever seen (only in video form), but it would ensure that my wii collection is dominated by games where I play as a wolf. When I was about to buy the system in the first place, I asked the guy at circuit city "now are you SURE I get to play as a wolf?" He smiled, winked and whispered "yes. twice."

meh, i already bought the PS2 version a month ago, and finished it just recently... so that'll be a No...
However, if i didn't have the PS2 version and had a wii, then i would definatly consider it... though i would be a bit questionable about the use of the wiimote is with the game; depends on how sesitive it is with the game... if it's too sesitve than it could end up being difficult to draw with.
