Rumortoid: No GTA IV DLC this year after all? photo

While Microsoft hopes for Grand Theft Auto IV downloadable content by this fall, a source close to Rockstar is claiming that the company is "wrong" to believe that it'll see any GTA episodes before 2009.

This mysterious source told VG247 that the first of the episodic downloads would more likely hit in January or February. This runs contrary to the previous rumor that November was the golden month for the DLC to launch. Perhaps that's what Microsoft thinks, but it's possibly not what Rockstar thinks.

Take-Two's official line is that the DLC will arrive during the first quarter of its next fiscal year, beginning in November '08 and ending in January '09. With different sources whispering different things about this situation, we'll have to wait for the all-knowing press release to determine it once and for all.

Rockstar's certainly dragged its heels over this content, if previous Destructoid community reaction is anything to go by. The general consensus seems to be that most of us has moved on from GTA IV. Will the DLC be enough to make any of you return to Liberty City?

I'm still in multiplayer every night playing GTA Race.

The DLC can come at any time and I am sure people will go back to GTAIV at the drop of a hat.... I mean why wouldn't they?

After 20 or so attempts at aiming my speedboat at that small yellow marker and failing I couldn't care less about more content, especially stuff that I'd have to pay for.

I'm becoming impatient as GTA IV becomes more boring for me. I barely play it, save for a small group of regulars I do free mode with. But it's getting boring, as I said. I'm looking forward to the DLC, but it's taking forever.

@xe-cute: Because the game was tedious, boring, and more steps backward in terms of gameplay than it was forwards in its story.

I haven't touched GTAIV in months and don't plan on going back to the series at all until they put back all the fun. Lame multiplayer can only carry a game for so long. I'd rather spend my money on worthwhile games this holiday season (or whenever the hell it gets released).

I stopped playing at around 60% complete. I can understand all the comments about how boring it has gotten, I feel that way too. But I haven't written the game off. I definitely plan on getting back in to it in the future. I'm not too sure if DLC is what'll spark that, but that game is full of replay value.

Meh. I don't see why so many people are down on DLC, especially when its things that are not hiding on the disc or, as reported, add such a significant amount of gameplay hours.

I'll pay $10 for a GTAIV "Expansion Pack". I had fun, stopped playing the game heavily, and I'm willing to have more fun.

I've played GTA4 for about 2-4 hours, and I see no reason for there to be downloadable content. That game is fucking huge.

I finished the storyline, thought it was excellent. I'd pick it up again in a minute at the thought of more story based missions. I could give two flying shits about jumping over bins or finding fucking pigeons.

I doubt Microsoft cares to much about how many people buy the DLC, the plan was to get people to invest in the original disc by offering something PS3 didnt have.

Practically everyone who beat it suddenly acts like its a shitty game now... I still play it occasionally, even having beaten it twice. There's still fun to be had with that game for me. (and I don't mean pigeons)

I couldnt get pass this part with a bout I think...

Too much "pick this guy up, take him here, chase this other guy, drop off guy" without checkpoints.

I lost interest in the game 3-4 hours in. I really only bought it on a whim in the first place. I had it on eBay within a week and a half of it's release. I was highly disappointed with the gameplay changes and could care less about the plot. I'm looking forward to Saints Row 2. I wanna use the shock paddles, dual uzis, etc. The guns in GTA4 were a step back from GTA:SA and GTA:VC. As was the driving. Hand to hand was at least fun, and they finally got rid of the losing all your ammo when you go to the hospital Thus leading to my exploiting it: run in the hospital, shoot everybody, wait for cops, shoot them and pick up their ammo, repeat until you die. You can get a shitload of ammo for guns you don't even have at the time if you can survive until SWAT and FBI come to say hi. That was literally the most fun I had in the game. Not exactly a selling point for me.

@ Rabite - same here. I picked up GTA4 and clocked it, but I considered it to be a serious step back. The story was good, but the lack of any sort of customisation or fun was a bit tragic.

Saint's Row 2 is looking great, though.

Jetpacks. heli's that shoot rockets and more multiplayer modes that don't require 10+ people to become fun and I might consider it.
