Rumortoid: Nintendo DSi to hit in April photo

Did you know that putting your Nintendo DS through the rinse cycle causes it to quit working? I forgot that factoid a few months ago. Now, I keep it on my desk. It is a reminder of my neglect. Whenever I steal a gaze at the busted machine, I tell myself that the DSi will be a fresh start.

My redemption opportunity may be coming sooner than expected. IGN is reporting that the DSi will hit American shores in April – perhaps April 4 – for the retail price of $179.99. The information comes from “multiple sources close to Nintendo.” Chances are Reggie isn’t the one who let the DSi out of the bag.

How many of you are thinking about getting a DSi? It’s not a crazy revision, but it seems like just enough to pull consumers back in. Will Nintendo strike gold again or are you content with what you have?

You can't play GBA games on it can you?

serivor- sadly no.

I personally think the DSi is a waste and not worth the money at all, I'm been ranting about how it's so superfluous since it was announced. Now if this pushes old DS lite models to go down in price, hell yes. My shoulder buttons are going on my DS lite and I'll probably end up buying another lite soon.

Serivor - No. I still have my SP however, so I don't have a problem with that.

I may get one. It's a big if.

That's dumb. But then again, it's good for the DS lite's prices to go down. I might buy one then.

No.

It's $180 for a smaller battery, web surfing (with no flash or Java support), and no GBA slot (yeah, I use it, and lots of people still do)

The larger screens, mp3, and camera seem like such trite offerings in light of the drawbacks that I'm still 100% behind the idea of purchasing a new DS lite sometime this year just to keep the better system around in decent and new shape for when my current model expires years from now.

I'll looked for a marked down Lite or just wait for a true DS two.

I'll get one when the first wave of homebrew applications start hitting the device, like a cinder-block rapidly pelting the soft under-developed skull of a newborn kitten.

No GBA slot, no buy. Of course, I fully expect Nintendo to try to sell us our GBA games in digital form.

This rumornews dovetails nicely with an article I was just thinking of writing.

I still have an original DS, and though I recently cracked the right hinge by dropping it while trying to put it in my jacket pocket it still works fine. If the DSi causes Lite prices to drop a bit, however...

Unless there's something absolutely compelling on DSiware, I doubt I'm in the market.

I am still crossing my arms about the lack of GBA compativility, that's a push-away of Gumpei Yokoi. Hurrr.

But well who knows, I might get a GBASP for keep myself contect, plus it can play old GB games so it could make the job.

I'll get it for the download service alone. That shit looks epic.

@Shoop: Yes it is.

I hate to say it, but my relationship with the DS has cooled down a lot, and tarting up like this just might end it.

It doesn't help that someone stole my DS lite and most of my game library, and that the only DS game I really care about - or see myself caring about in the forseeable future - is one I have on loan from a friend. But maybe that will help me make a clean break.

Not as dumb as the GBA micro, but still pretty dumb. The camera is worthless, and the bigger screens are really the only thing better about it. A normal DS light can be turned into this thing minus camera very easily. There are tons of great flashcarts out their that even have micro sdhc capabilities, and a lot of slot 2 devices give you browsing capability and some extra ram.

I'm actually quite surprised people are still angry about this. I probably won't get it for a while. At least not until some good DLC, or camera games come out. Oh, it that what people are so upset about? Not being able to use their 'not' R4s?

Got a Phat and 2 Lite's at the moment ( and my GF has 2 lites as well ) so more then enough DS's in our place :p

Don't think I'll be getting this one, since the Lite is already a bit too small for my liking, if only they could make the Phat have the same weight as the Lite, I'd get another Phat :-)

I have my fatty old DS that I got the year the damn system came out. I'd have it forever except that they no longer make accessories for it. So yeah, I'll probably get a DSi just because if I'm going to get a new DS I might as well get one that can internet.

Seems like a negative step to me. Nothing that's being added is worth the loss of the GBA slot.

best way to play gba is gba sp (with the new screen), it's better than DS/lite/whatever. The reason I want a DSi is for the SD card slot. They are basically building in a easy way for me to "not steal" their games. It's only a matter of time till you're going to be able to run games from an SD card. I bet you won't even have to buy an R4.

Camera/internet/mp3 probably wont use these ever. But the DS is a portable device, and having a smaller/lighter unit makes this worth it to me. If you can make it easier for me to take the thing on the road, then I'm all for it.

they should have sticked with 140 price range of the lite that is very cool. Te cam is a stupid add on.

I stick to my lite.

Even if I didn't have to get a DSi for my journalism needs, I'd be picking one up just for the new Wario Ware.

$170 is actually cheaper than I expected. The DSi goes for a lot more than that in Japan and is selling like crazy.

The DS is cheaper then the PSP, the DSi isnt.

I don't understand the complaints, if you dont want one, or think its worth it don't buy one. Its not like the software will just dry up on the DS and be DSi exclusive anytime soon.

There's a bunch of interesting features that are appealing to me like the short animation maker and the music manipulation that make me want this. Plus with the built in browser, online download service and sd slot, it opens the system up to be a much more capable system for homebrew. I probably wont buy it day one, but its got my interest in mind, I have no complaints.

People keep talking about the browser. Did you ever see the DS Browser? It was horrible!

How much do you want to bet they just used that exact same crappy browser in the DSi?

My Phat is on it's last legs, so I've been taking a hard look at the DSi. Considering my Christmas Cyclo Evolution, it's a hard call. It really comes down to what the homebrew crowd will be able to do with it, I think.

GBA games are for girls.

I might buy a DSi if the price comes down a little, I need a console I can customize with stickers, and the DS Phat is ugly shit, and the DSLite I already have, with my Triforce DS and all.

I'd never put a sticker on that. EVER.
