Rumortoid: New unannounced Halo game in the works photo

With this year's E3 being just a couple of weeks away, the rumor mill has kicked into overdrive once again -- and guess which beloved IP is mentioned? None other than the Master Chief variety. Don't expect the man in green to make an appearance this time, though, as he's still resting up from nearly biting the dust in his last gig in Halo 3.

Details are less than scarce at this point, and Microsoft is following its usual song and dance of "no comment" regarding the game's supposed development. What little we do know is that the rumor appears to have originated from talks between a "reliable anonymous source" and the folks over at Sarcastic Gamer. Will this be the prequel that some have been speculating about? Is Peter Jackson involved? CVG pondered this too, and tried to uncover more information to help validate the rumor.

Unfortunately, they were stonewalled as expected. However, they are still sticking to hope, and pointing to their own inside sources that claim that Microsoft has two more big Xbox 360 games to surprise us with at E3. As far as they can tell, something new in the vein of Halo will be among them. With plenty of untapped potential in the Halo universe, this could easily become reality. Still, it's hard to imagine the game without its star player -- the chief. Are we chasing shadows on this one, or do you think Microsoft has more Halo to surprise us with, and soon?

[Thanks, Burling]

Pure speculation here:
A Halo game where Red Team has to team up with Blue Team. And its a survival horror game.

I'd like to see the Halo game play evolve. Perhaps see a Halo game in the vein of the Battlefront/Battlefield series with epic air & land battles and formidable AI. Like Halo Wars but done in a way that you feel like you're in the battle like the original Halo games.

I know its unpopular to admit liking Halo but I've had fun with the series. I've spent countless hours on Live with Halo 2&3 and had tons of fun playing the campaign of Halo CE & 3 so I'm interested to see where the series goes.

Microsoft doesn't have anything to do with Alan Wake. Remedy studios is making it...let's try and keep up ok?

If this is one of their big announcements. That is fucking sad. I guess Halo is going to be a yearly affair now. Probably why Bungie cut ties.

"I am off to work more closely with Microsoft on the Halo franchise..."

From the Bungie Weekly Update last May 16th, when the ever-visible "Frankie" left them. For people who hate themselves enough to keep up on the weekly updates when Bungie has no official word on games in the works, it's pretty clear that Microsoft has been massaging their own Halo series into existence at least since Halo 3 was released.

Old news is old.

Fuck Master Chief. I don't want ten games with him in them. He's a good character, but he's run his course. There's nothing more to him, unless they were to expound on him a bit. I don't mind more Halo, but do something interesting with it, please. Not more of the same.

Agreed 100%, More Halo, less Master Chief. I don't want them to beat the Master Chief character to death. Do something like Kojima did with Solid Snake. Let us play as a different character while keeping Master Chief as that legendary figure thats off doing something else.

We need Fall of Reach: The Video Game. If you have read the book, you know why. Going through the training would be sweet, and then doing missions with a bunch of Spartans. I want that game.
