Rumortoid: New Nintendo titles for E3, also Mario and Zelda photo

As you've heard, the Wii Fit part of this story is the most solid. In the Japanese Trademark Database, a Wii Fit Plus comes up. Great name, Nintendo. Very inventive. We'll act totally surprised at the announcement on Tuesday's press conference at E3. Siliconera also found a couple of other interesting title names in the database: Art Academy and BonsaiBarber, with the latter being a domestic WiiWare release. I wonder what Art Academy is.

The Mario and Zelda rumors come from an analyst firm that seems to be making sh*t up -- sh*t that just about anyone in this industry could've guessed. According to GamesIndustry.biz, They echo the Wii Fit Plus thing, but then go on to say that we should expect announcements of a Mario or Zelda game. Macquarie Research's reason? They "expect Nintendo to learn its lessons from last year and provide more gamer-centric announcements."

Yeah, so do we.

I'll be up at the ass-crack of dawn to liveblog the Nintendo press conference next week. Maybe we'll get something more interesting than a new Wii Fit game. Stay tuned.

I still would rather have something totally new, on the level of Pikmin new (back when that was new).

What is it with people and new Mario/Zelda games? I'm a Nintendo fanboy and I don't want them so soon. I think we'll see a new trailer for Zelda (probably just to shut the press up) but nothing more.

So the "big" surprise will most likely be another Zelda or Mario game? We've fried our brains, and are "ok" with 0 new IPs from Nintendo apparently.

I'm predicting New Super Mario Brothers 2 for the DS, which is a sequel to, yet another Mario game.

Probably Zelda. I don't see them doing two Mario games in a row.

Well they'll probably have Cosmic Walker, which we haven't seen since last Octobers Media Summit in Japan. It looked pretty cool for the little we got to see of it in the video montage of games they showed, but yeah something totally new, and never seen before would be nice to!

I'm an analyst too. I predict that they're going to announce a new Smash Bros. where all the new characters will be cereal mascots like Captain Crunch and a Wii-make of The Little Mermaid NES. Also, there will be a new firmware update that makes it so that every time you play your Wii Jessica Alba comes to your house and rapes you.

I really hope they hold the next Zelda until their next console comes around. Zelda has always come hand-in-hand with great graphics and pushing hardware and player interaction to the limit. Unless they pull another art style shift, it won't be that visually impressive.

I actually loved how Twilight looked, but it's only due to great art direction, and I sorely miss that eye-candyness from Ocarina, Majora's Mask and, hell, even Wind Waker. I don't remember seeing any cel shading as fluid as that by that time.

Then again, there's the MotionPlus and the balance board to try and keep things fresh. Let's see how they fare.

I would like to see something completely new as well. Something GOOD and new. . . none of this Wii "insert something here" bullshit.

I too would like to see a New Super Mario Bros 2 and I would like to say that it would be AWESOME if they went ahead and made it like Super Mario Bros 2 on the NES as opposed to all the other Super Mario games. I want Mouser and Wart and Birdo and that mask dude that flew around when you picked up the key. That would be rad.

How much do these analysts make and where do I apply? If all it takes is that I say Nintendo will announce a new Zelda or Mario game every year then I'm over qualified...Why does this profession exist?

Also, I think Zelda will be there, but it'll be released in 2011, last year of Wii.

Mario and zelda would be great as long as it was an adventure and not super special awesome family kart party game. Something different like the preview on the kid icarus game. I would dream of bringing back a wii earthbound game but such dreams are too bold to happen. Nintendo of america will probably keep it family.

It would be really nice if Nintendo introduced a new IP that actually came out in the US, but since they don't seem to be doing that, I'll settle for a new Mario and Zelda game.

2.5D anything from Nintendo would be amazing.

Well, considering the first Twilight Princess trailer was shown 5 years ago, I think we're about due for at least a peek. Though if it's anything like Phantom Hourglass it'll be rehashed and unimaginative, but eh, we'll see.

Too soon for a new Mario, unless it's basically another Galaxy, sort of like DLC but not. And even that seems unlikely.

an online game of Balloon Fighter with customizable parts as helmets, outfit or wings like that Flash game would be awesome.

I can NEVAR imagine Nintendo ending the Mario franchise. You can bet there will be another Mario game coming out.

@ChronicLogic

The issue is not about if it will continue, is that it will be released when. Galaxy came out in... what, 2 years ago? The basic Mario games come out each in an average of four years so it is still too soon to see a new one unless it is a spinoff.

WTF? Has everyone forgot Metroid? Is absolutely time to give the franchise a good look from Nintendo. How about Dread or a remake of Super Metroid for the DS? I would either if not both buy them on day 1.

They might as well announce a new console Zelda now, so they can get started on the five-year development.

As far was what I'd personally like to see, bring on a new Metroid for WiiWare, even though I don't see that happening. If they do announce a new one, it'll probably be for the DS.

I'd like to see them announce some sort of game where you have the munchies and you eat some veggies and save the world!

A new Zelda makes sense...and by that I mean a new console Zelda. It seems a little earlier for a new console Mario. On the other hand, stated by previous comments, a new Super Mario for the DS would fit quite nicely. The consistency of the first iteration to remain high in the NPD's would support that logic.

Nintendo had just better show up and not screw up this year if they really expect to stay relevant.

I'd phone in the Capcom press conference after last year's fiasco. In fact I'd phone in all of them after seeing Nintendo and Capcom's last year. I honestly felt your pain from having to deal with that shit.
