Rumortoid: Neverwinter Nights MMO to hit in 2011 photo

Another Dungeons and Dragons MMO may be coming soon.

According to Variety sources, Cryptic Studios is developing a Neverwinter Nights MMO that Atari will publish in 2011. The anonymous bunch whispering these sweet secrets have pegged this MMO as Atari’s motivation for acquiring Cryptic Studios in 2008 for twenty-eight million dollars.

Cryptic Studios is developing two other MMOs: Champions Online and Star Trek Online. Champions Online will be available for the PC and the Xbox 360 September 1, 2009. Star Trek will probably remain eternally in development. (It’s TBA.)

The sources didn’t have any other information about the Neverwinter Nights MMO, but we’re guessing the unannounced title will have at least one tree and probably an elf or two. Also, dwarves.

Wow, because Cryptic doesn't have enough fail on their plate with Champions Online and picking up Bill Roper, they now have to decimate what's left of NWN after NWN2....

Sure, why not. But what is up with 2011? We could either be dead by then or have flying cars and droids that do our bidding.

@ Kasreyn - you got it all wrong, that year is 2012!

and to be ontopic: This sounds exiting but i am curious how they will pull it of because in all the NWN games the story was a big part and we all know MMOs suck big time at that chapter!

..Ugh.

Y'now. part of me wants to tell Solozuar how horrifically wrong he is. But the fact its cryptic, the same studio that nearly destroyed my beloved CoH with their bad decisions...eh.

NWN already was an MMO back in the glorious Gold Box days.

Funny how this rumor comes out the day after D&D Online goes free to play sans microtransations!

An MMORPG huh? So you roleplay as a D&D master who creates campaigns using software on the computer in your virtual PC room. You must direct your D&D master to use the computer, take coffee breaks, and play as a character in the virtual worlds created by yourself and other D&D masters. As you play, your character gets better at creating campaigns and playing Neverwinter Nights.

That's meta.

I loved NWN back in the day, albeit mainly for the versatility of the Aurora toolset. With all of the enhancements it received over the years following NWN's debut, it's become a pretty powerful creative tool.

If they can somehow capture that same magic and work it into a full-blown MMO, I'd be more than happy to take a look at it. Still don't think I'd pay a monthly fee for it, but curiosity overwhelms.
