Rumortoid: MGS4's Payton to head up Halo Chronicles photo

Metal Gear Solid 4 producer and Kojima Productions alumni Ryan Payton is rumored to have been snapped up by Microsoft to work on the fabled Halo Chronicles.

According to The Beautiful One, Payton is to be the creative director for Chronicles. The source of this Rumortoid is, of course, anonymous and mysterious, which means that we'll have to wait for any official announcements before we get too excited.

Chronicles is a project spearheaded by film director Peter Jackson and his Wingnut Interactive studio, in association with Bungie. It has been billed as an upcoming episodic game set in Halo's universe.

Payton was seen as a huge influence on Metal Gear Solid 4 and became a regular name in the media, so it was inevitable that he'd find himself a high profile job in the industry after leaving Kojima. The Halo franchise is as high profile as it gets.

Does this mean Halo Chronicles will be shitty yet inexplicably universally loved?

Are nanomachines the reason for halo? Or everything that has to do with anything? If so, this rumor is true.

Is it completely geeky of me that I want that ODST uniform....and that I know that that's an ODST uniform?

I really don't give a shit about all these Halo rumors, no need to get all worked up over it. Now when somethings officially anounced I'll check it out for sure, but until I get something concrete, all of this is just smoke and mirrors.

Payton did say he wanted to continue working on triple A titles but stay close to his family in WA.

Marques, no, it's not geeky, because I, too, want to wear it.

@Mecha

Episodic GAME, not a movie.

And Phantom Spaceman is bad at Halo.

@phantom Spaceman: I am sure it will be shitty, yet universally loved, it's a Halo game after all. You set yourself up for that one.

@Kyousuke Nanbu

It was an MSG4 cutscene joke. The joke was hidden a little deeper than most.

Interesting to hear that. I never really dug the Halo story though. It just seemed kind of silly and rushed without much detail. I loved to kill things with crazy weapons and drive fun vehicles with my friends. Maybe this episodic stuff will use the Halo universe story as the main focus? Could be good?
