Rumortoid: Medal of Honor: Modern Warfare photo

What's good enough for Activision is good enough for EA if gossip is to be believed. It's being said that the next Medal of Honor game will be brought bang up to date with a foray into the realm of modern warfare.

According to rumors, Medal of Honor: Operation Anaconda will take players to Afghanistan in 2002 and be based around the real-life mission of the game's name. The ill-fated mission saw a helicopter crash and a unit stranded in Taliban-filled mountains.

If this is true, then Medal of Honor has taken a turn for the controversial and this could certainly be a future hot-button topic. If MoH does what Call of Duty was afraid to do and set the game during a relevant, real-life modern conflict, then things could become very interesting indeed. Cue war widows screaming about how games are "making fun" of tragedy, even if the game doesn't do that at all.

I also agree that this could cause a large amount of problems. Hopefully this game will be a little more realistic than other Medal of honors and COD.

I'm amazed they still make those games. I've never enjoyed the series, well whatever works..

I'm going to make a war game set in 2009, where the U.S. invades Iran.

Sweet, I'm down for some invasions of Afghanistan. They should put in a bonus mission where you find bin Laden.

Hell with finding Bin Laden, there should be a mission where you extract him for 'plausable deniability.'

People tend to forget that he is Saudi with ties to the royal family...

If EA was smart, not likely, they would get the families of the soliders involved now. Tell them what they are planning, if anything, and let them know it won't be trivializing their sacrafice but rather it would be an homage to them.

Bin Laden died e few years ago of kidney failure. The government is just keeping that secret so we still have our boogey man to be scared of.

I'm hoping COD5 will be the last WW2 game. But we all know that's just wishful thinking.

There are so many rich wars in Africa that have been untapped, ripe for exploitation by the fps genre.

RICHARD BLOCKER: I doubt they would bring COD5 back to WW2. They already have COD:World at War set in WW2.

@Narishma
That's what I meant. I was confusing World at War with COD5

Between Battlefield and Call of Duty I was ready to say we have enough modern war games. Then I read the part about it being based on a real life conflict and that right there gives me a little glimmer of hope.

Wasn't there a game where you could 'download' new missions, based on real ones, after they were made public? What the hell was that game called...

So basically the game consists of calling in artillery fire and air strikes on a series of caves?

His point was that you said "get away from WWI and WWII games" but there was never really that many WWI games that would make us all want to get away from them. WWII games on the otherhand. People are sick of that shit. I'm sick of shooting people with my wooden gun!!
