Rumortoid: Mass Effect for PC is on the way photo

Until there's an official statement, this is slapped with a rumor tag, but one of our Destructoid Community Bloggers has seemingly discovered that his videogame store will be receiving copies of BioWare's Mass Effect for PC.

The discovery came from an EA newsletter which arrived at the store where Dtoider myaimistrue  works. It lists the game as MASS EFFECT PC DVD 5030945065685 EAN07706226 TBC TBC ACTION 18+ 25 SWE ENG. Complying with one of the cardinal rules of the Internet (pics or it didn't happen), he also provided a shot of the newsletter itself, which can be viewed below.

This isn't very hard to imagine being true, since a game like Mass Effect should be quite comfortable with PC controls, if only because the 360 control mapping was bloody awful (once again, the back button threw grenades and there were three buttons to draw your weapon). A good few gamers wanted to see this come to their computers and now it looks like it'll be happening.

Destructoid will keep you mouse n' keyboarders posted when there's more news to go on.

Mods for Mass Effect on PC? That'd be rather sweet.

You mean Mass Effect wasn't originally for the pc? All this time I thought Mass Effect was released on the pc

I agree that the PC has more control options than a console.
I love lots of options in my games. Consoles dont give me that.

This is unsurprising. Both KOTORs and Jade Empire were (badly) ported to the PC so it only makes sense that Bioware would be porting another KOTOR-esque console RPG to the PC as well.

Yumplumbum, tell me your joking.... KOTOR was ported PERFECTLY onto the PC. Jade empire was as well, what fictional world do you live in?

@xper

True, the PC game market LOOKS to be petering out a little, but the truth of the matter is that major development studios are realizing several (obvious trends).

1. Consoles = cheap
2. PCs = multifunctional, and with the right controls/hardware, easily matches a console for gaming capability.
3. Consoles are becoming a hell of a lot like PCs (actually more like Macs since you can't open them up).

Conclusion. Consoles ARE PCs (Wii excepted), except with slower browsers, no MS word, and a uniform hardware profile (making development easier).

So what to do? Develop console, port it to the PC, and let PC players either get used to Keyboard+mouse or buy a 360 controller and plug it in. Easy-peasy. MS wanted that by trying to port Live to PCs, but it failed on that part. It's succeeding on most other fronts since most genres that are PC-centric (RTSs, quirky point-click adventure games, flash, and FPSs) are now in the technical reach of most platforms. C&C3 and CoD4 are proof of that. The last steps are cross-platform multiplayer that actually works and decent MMOs.

Now that you think about it, that's the one good thing about the Phantom's basic concept. It came with a lap keyboard and mouse.

I've got it on the 360, so I won't be getting it for PC :-)
