Rumortoid: Kratos to be a playable character in Soulcalibur IV photo

In the latest issue of EGM, rumormonger Quartermann drops a hint that Kratos (of God of War fame) will soon be revealed as the next playable character in the PlayStation 3 version of Soulcalibur IV.

I would link to some reputable source with proof that this is happening, but I’ve got nothing. All I am going on is the word of some mysterious figure in a popular videogame magazine who, for all I know, is actually a cute kitten. Oh, look, Mittens’ ball of yarn just rolled towards those copies of God of War and Soulcalibur! IT’S OFFICAL, KRATOS IS IN THE GAME!

If this is true, though, I know for certain which console version of Soulcalibur IV I am purchasing. Blades of Chaos vs. lightsaber? Yes, please.

What do you think? Too much cross-promotion or the greatest thing ever?! Is Soulcalibur becoming the new Super Smash Bros.?

If ps3 get Kratos, I demand 360 gets Kaim. He would be the most unbalanced charater though considering he can't die.

XBox 360 better get Ash from Evil Dead then damn it! That's pretty unfair that PS3 gets both Darth Vader and Kratos. Ash is the only thing that could even things out, even Kratos doesn't hold a candle.

Ok this is getting ridiculous. Way back when Vader & Yoda were announced, I made a blog listing characters I would rather see in SCIV.

Kratos was on it.

Well shit, if they can have Afro Samurai, why not Kratos?

This can't be true, I mean...I'm trying ot think of who would be announced on Microsoft's end in response to this and I'm hitting a huge blank.

Lack of exclusive sword wielding characters = fail?..

...Unless it's Marcus wielding the lancer. In which case, he'd be a huge tank character with limited projectiles. Bombs, machine gun fire and crap.

Kinda like Link in SC2, but heavy?..

Nahhh...I hope this isn't true.

I don't really care about guest characters, but Kratos would be a great addition and would fit much better than the StarWars characters.

I assume the X360 version will get a Xbox specific exclusive character as well but seriously, who could top or even match Kratos on coolness?

Since Master Chief is slightly played out due to DOA, and Marcus Phoenix totally doesn't fit (though it would be kind of cool if his weapon was the Lancer), I'm going to guess they'll put in Ryu Hayabusa. That would be pretty lame though since he's already in a fighting series (but then again, so was Heihachi). Who else is there really? Maybe Baldur from Too Human?

When I saw a magazine ad for SCIV prominently featuring Yoda and Darth Vader, I realized how much of a joke the franchise is becoming. Don't get me wrong: having these characters in the game as a bonus is great. But how sad is it that they feel they must sell the game with these characters? I didn't think too much of the special characters in SCII, but this is getting ridiculous.

More characters in a fighting game is always a good thing, I don't care what the game is or who they're including. However, Kratos in Soul Calibur? DO WANT.

Its not Smash Brother yet, but it probably should be. Just go all out, so people can stop complaining about the "purity" of the franchise. My Reqeusts for Smash Calibur Brawl:

See, this I can get behind. I loved that Link and Heihachi were characters in Soul Calibur II, but I really couldn't care less about Spawn having been playable. He just didn't fit. For the same reason, I can't really get excited about the Star Wars inclusions in this one. Kratos, though? Fucking awesome.

I have no love for the Soul Caliber series, but even I admit that Kratos would be a really cool addition to the PS3 version.
Get some Patapon in there too and I might start to consider a purchase...

I'm not the biggest fan of the Soulcalibur series (in fact, not a fan at all) but I don't think this is a desperation move or a sign that the series is falling off; I just think they're trying their best to cater to specific gamers.

I'm still gonna say Master Chief for the 360 version. It wasn't Master Chief in DOA, so they could still do it.

Also, I don't think Dante would be the one, since he's not an exclusive character.

man.. thats what i didnt like about sc II, spawn, heihachi, and link just dont fit.. its weird. as much as i love axel from streets of rage, i think he'd make a garbage addition to street fighter IV.

Quartermann is the biggest creator of bullshit in videogames. Not a single prediction he's made has ever come true, aside from obvious shit like THERE WILL BE A NEW PLAYSTATION IN FIVE YEARS.

In the fantasy world that Quartermann would be right though, the only suitable 360 counterpart would be Ryu Hayabusa, which would be a nice jab at Itagaki since he always talked shit about Namco.

SC 2 had two characters from Tekken on the PS2 and Link on the NGC

SC 3 had:
King from Tekken
Kunimitsu from Tekken
KOS-MOS from Xenosaga
Neneko from Yumeria
Valkyrie from The Legend of Valkyrie

SC4 should have
Wanderer from Shadow of the Colossus
Nariko from Heavenly Sword
Rau Utu from The Mark Of Kri
