Yikes.

These renders could be completely fake, they could be part of a pitch from Factor 5 to Nintendo, or they could be an actual work in progress from a new Kid Icarus game, but no matter how you slice it, they're pretty hard to look at. The Wii can handle just about everything but realistic looking graphics, so to dump the perfectly acceptable Pit design from Super Smash Bros. Brawl in favor of this fugly Man Icarus would just be bad buisness.

If this is the direction that Nintendo wants to go with the next Kid Icarus title, I hope they wait for the Wii 2 before they put the game out. Turning Pit into a muscular man would still be a deformation of the Kid Icarus I grew up with, but at least it would be deformation presented in glorious high-defintion.

Wow those do look horrible. Doesn't Nintendo know that they need a high definition machiene these days? Most Television is going digital this year... Time for the Olde Nintendo to start paying attention to the times.

I'm more inclined to think this is some college kid's own stylized render for a 3D modeling course, using someone else's intellectual property for the source inspiration. I would imagine Nintendo would want to stick with the Smash Bros Brawl version.

I don't think it looks ugly because it's trying to be realistic. I think it looks ugly because it's a shitty design, with boring colors to boot. If this is the real deal, just remember, all you people who wanted a "mature" Kid Icarus reboot: Be careful what you wish for.

I don't have even the slightest doubt that this isn't real. I'm inclined to believe Nintendo will stick with the Smash Bros. model for a new Kid Icarus game unless they went cel-shaded or something but I'm absolutely sure they wouldn't turn him into this if they wanted to redesign him for some reason.

Ok, that crap is TOTALLY fake. With Nintendo's style and the quality of product that generally put out, there is NO WAY that they would allow one of their first party titles to look like this.

Plus, The proportions on the character are WAY off as well. I simply can't believe that this would ever even come close to being real. When is the last time Nintendo renders were leaked anyway? Ummm... NEVER? Oh yeah.

I don't know, Resident Evil 4 looked pretty realistic on the GameCube, and it looks just as good on the Wii. You just need to know how to do realistic graphics correctly on the Wii.

I agree, though, I think the Pit model from Brawl would be ten times better. You know, so he's a kid.

I'm gonna say 'not official Nintendo' because unless my eyes just aren't processing what I'm seeing correctly, his legs are all messed up in the one with his bow drawn. He has the wrong leg forward and it makes for an almost physically impossible stance... I don't think the Big N would overlook such a simple mistake.

I still don't get why Kid Icarus is wanted by so many people. Most of the kids screaming for it weren't even born when that game hit and the game itself wasn't even that great. Cool music though!

There may be a Nintendo franchise that would work with the "dark and gritty" interpretation, but it's NOT Kid Icarus.

This probably isn't real.

However, the reason it looks real shitty is because it's a screen shot of a 3D program's view port. View ports use low quality real-time rendering to save memory. If this were rendered at a Wii standard it would look a lot better.

@ Pedrovay- Yeah, while I was typing that, I thought to myself "Except for RE4, but that's a Gamecube game, so should I mention it? What am I saying?" so I just edited the thought.

for the record, I do think that realistic graphics can be done on the Wii, but not quite as well as on the other guy's consoles.

Thanks for mentioning that this is a poorly rendered 3d program screenshot before any processing. The final model would look far better ...although Cartoon Kid Icarus would still be better.

first of all this shouldn't even be a news post, its obviously fake, and anyone that works in the industry should know that.
second, to all you brainwashed HIGH DEFINITION creatures, have you ever played Final Fantasy XII(this means 12 if you didn't know)? it has some of the prettiest realistic graphics in a video game and it doesnt have fancy lighting, normal maps or HD output.
its not the hardware that makes the game, its the people behind it.

ooh and before you start calling me a nintendo fan boy ffxii came out to the ps2.
